I drove past the BP garage at the bottom of Moonshine Lane at 7:15am. It was cordoned off and a police car was guarding the Herries Road entrance to it.

Anyone know anything?

There was a reported child abduction from the phone box opp. the water works on Moonshine Lane....but I've not heard anything else about it since so I think it was just a precaution to close off the road to preserve forensic evidence.

No. This was this morning. And it was the BP garage only that was cordoned off and being guarded. The garage has been robbed on numerous occasions in the past and what with the recent firearms incidents in the vicinity...

apparently there has been another attempted abduction.
The mrs has just spoken to her friend who is a member of staff there and was started work this morning just after this happened. Hopefully this is another false alarm like the one a few days ago.
It happened on the forecourt of the garage, and if i know of any further developments i shall post them.

i am never surprised when i hear of incidents in that part of town. the longley/ southey/shirecliffe areas are truly awful. shootings, muggings, drugs and violence are just a part of life.

This isn't true at all. It was a banner around the garage so you couldn't go in. It didn't say police on the banner it was that sign of the biological logo thing. It would be something to do with the petrol or gas.

I have lived in S5 for 3 years and I have never seen any bit of trouble. There has never been any police cars , no teenagers causing trouble no noise. I feel completley safe here.

Ach, beat me to it ;)

Is it the most expensive petrol station in Sheffield?

Easily a couple of pence a litre more expensive than anywhere else I've seen in North / Central Sheffield

I've lived in S5 for two years, and had 2 cars nicked and 2 (different) cars broken into/smashed. I've also had my rabbit and hutch stolen. I do feel rather victimised, to be honest, because my neighbours don't see any bother at all ...

Yes I was asking trainwalker. I assumed with their insightful comment they must be a resident of one of the areas mentioned. Wondered which one.

Yes to be honest mate that sounds to me that you have a couple of enemies or something. Maybe you annoyed them when you was driving or something but that is far to much of a coincidence to me. Like I said, I have had no trouble and niether of any of my neigbours.

To be honest I think it's more the opportunity. It seems the previous owners liked privacy and have enormous hedges around the garden and driveway. Combined with the fact that our garden has 2 exits on 2 different roads (it's an end terrace) they can basically hide from view while carrying out their nefarious deeds. I'm sorting it out, but it's ridiculously expensive to get hedges removed ...

if its privet dig round the roots then hook up a tow rope to a car then away you go

Nah, Moonshine Lane garage has it's own definition of opening hours anyway ... and appropriate petrol prices (*peeve*). It's handy to have the cash machine, though.

Might try the tow rope vs. privet thing, though ...

Thanks, Foxprom, for clearing up the riddle of why the cops had cordoned off the BP garage at the Shirecliffe end of Moonshine Lane.

It turns out that DavidR01's report of an attempted abduction was the most accurate.

In truth, it was probably no more sinister than some drunken guys arguing and falling out and then stopping their car to calm and/or settle it. They then would have driven off again and are probably oblivious to all the fuss they have caused. Such things happen all the time and always have done. On the other hand...

That some local resident has seen it through the window and phoned the law tells me that the nerves of some of those who live near the BP garage are being strung out by local anti-social issues, especially the reported gun crimes. It is this detrimental effect of anti-social behaviour on communities that interests me. That and the reasons why society (we) allows it to happen.
