I know not a very cool topic you might think but I hear you can stumble across some star buys at the charity shops. So which ones are best , you know the ones where evrybody with too much money donates their designer labels to when they have worn them once. you know the ones I mean, I heard there is a good one on ecclesall rd, anyone know anything?

I know that oxafam on eccy rd are open til after 5 on saturdays - and the ones in town aren't

Car load of stuff, nowhere to donate it to... and we found them open as we were heading for the park with the hairy fiend :D

It's only small, but it was interesting enough to get me to stop and look - and I don't usually 'do' secondhand clothes :(

The best ones are along Ecclesall Road. The best one for top brands, I find, is the one in the Berkely carpark (culdesac), along from Tesco. It's one fighting cancer, Marie Curie, possibly. I bought a nice Gap top from there the other day.

I disagree, surely Broomhill has to be the Mecca for charity shops...I've picked up some ace stuff there, from records, to books, to clothes.

All close together, then enough pubs/coffee shops to go and examine your purchases.

Lovely.

I've worked in nearly every Oxfam shop in Sheffield at some point in time, and most of them are good.. Only time I hated it was when I was working in the King St one in Town and nobody ever went down that end of Town on a Thursday when the Castle Markets were shut... Not even the little old biddies who used to come in every day...

Sheffield Uni's paper voted the PDSA shop in Broomhill the best charity shop but somehow that's not suprising seeing as it requires virtually no walking distance. Is it just me or does Oxfam seem to think it's the best charity shop around? It is definitely the most expensive and I have stopped shopping there as I feel smaller shops are more worthy of my cash!

There are lots of good charity shops dotted around the city and every now and then I go to Crookes and then work my way back to Woodseats going in as many as I can think of. I like St. Lukes and the Imperial cancer one. I tend to find bargains though in most of them if i look often enough, Barnardo's PDSA, Help the Aged, Quit, Shelter, Savation Army, St Vincents the list seems to go on and on.

I go quite often to bag a bargain! some good designer bargains can be had on eccy rd and oxfam at broomhill. Not saying you cant come accros something just as good at the others but from experience these are the best. Depends also what in particular you are looking for.

Quit has to be the worst one - everything smells of fags :hihi:

lol!

I find the cancer research shop on eccy road quite a treasure chest for VERY cheap designer cast offs, with oxfam and pdsa at broomhill excellent for fiction books (pdsa a bit cheaper than oxfam, but only by pennies!).

yep it's excellent. It's a shame they've started ebaying or selling online all the decent vinyl though, you used to get some gems before.

i think the best one is to ask any of the shop staff what private sales they have as there all picked over theses days
