Does anyone know why they stopped running a full Marathon in Sheffield?

Would anyone like to see it back?

I did it in 2001 when it went through Rotherham, but for some reason it just repeated the half marathon route. I think they try to avoid the many, many hills that we have here to be honest, and 26 miles avoiding the hills is quite hard to plan. Dunno really though.

Signed up for London 2011 today though.

Ran the first in 1982, and succesive years. The route back then covered both the north and south of the city and went through many residential areas, which led to a real community event for many years.

A bit like the Great North where whole streets would line the route encouraging the runners (offering drinks, hose pipes, buckets of water etc)

I feel the event lost all of this upon moving to Don Valley (from Hillsbrough Park) and a dual route, which seemed to concentrate around the near deserted industrial areas.
