Are these common or what everyone keeps asking how the hell do you get them black never realy thought about it been there that long dont realy take much notice of them lol.

I have never known of black tulips but i can imagine they look really nice and unusual.

I used to have some of these, partly because I'm a bit Goth and have every flower and plant that I can find which is black (Ophiopogon nigrescens, Iris germanica 'Helen Proctor' etc) and that included 'queen of the night' tulips, which in some lights are pretty near indistinguishable from black. In strong sunlight they're obviously a very deep purple rather than black, but they're still rather lovely aren't they?

EDIT- I lost most of my bulbs in the swampy summer of 2007 when the garden was a bog for a couple of months and some sort of rot wiped both roots and tubers out. I'll replace them when I'm reasonably sure that the rot is no longer in the soil.

In strong sunlight they're obviously a very deep purple rather than black, but they're still rather lovely aren't they?Yes they do look good and i would say deep purple myself just that used to everyone saying how did you get black tulips pmsl i thought they had changed actualy as lasy week some were out red with black centres but they,ve gone and true to form these have come up after those might split them all up when times right spread them around a bit lol.

They're not common, terminator, I'd say they were quite out of the ordinary. I had some myself years ago and, iirc, they were quite expensive. I had a planting of them, some black grasses and pink parrot tulips and it looked stunning. Sadly the tulips disappeared after a few years and the grass died off during a drought period ... :(
