View Full Version : Pot hole conspiracy...
Ever noticed that some of the best residential areas in Sheffield have the worst roads?
I was vrooming along in my car tonight (bumpily through S11), discussing this fact with my special friend and decrying the state of the roads in such a nice area.
My friend came up with a brilliant take on the current situation...
He reckons the roads in traditionally 'Tory' areas are very neglected because the ruling Labour council would rather look after their own.
Hence most council estates have perfectly maintained surfaces (and then have to be artificially pot-holed with speed bumps to calm the joy out of the riders)
Whereas the hard working, interest earning lot have to invest in 4x4's simply to get out of their drive-ways!
Brilliant take on things!
Anybody agree?
redrobbo 01-09-2005, 23:59 Deavon.... are you being mischievous? :suspect:
{Awaits post from Ecclesall to see if bait taken} :hihi:
Nope
Me thinks its the state of the roads all over Sheffield regardless of whether its council owned or not .
I recently reported a pothole and it was repaired fairly quickly, maybe the so called "hard working ,interest earning lot " should learn how to pick up the phone.

norfolkngood 02-09-2005, 07:04 And may i ask, what is with the problem of owning a 4x4 vehicle. Geberally jealousy has a large part in comments liek that, mainly as said people can not afford siad vehicles.
RazorSHarp 02-09-2005, 07:28 Are the roads in Sheffield not laid with potholes already in?

Without wanting to be too contraversial (i don't want to start a debate!), but it could simply be concern for the environemnt....

The problem is that you live in Sheffield not outback Australia.
Nuff said.

It's the latest fashion craze - pre-worn jeans and pre-holed roads! Sheffield is the Levi's of Britain
Classic Rock 02-09-2005, 09:14 So how does the theory explain the huge potholes on the main roads, e.g. the Parkway?

For the love of god please can we not let this slide into another 4x4 debate.

PMSL!
Rotherham's roads are as bad, the poor old horse n cart really struggles these days.
I long for tarmac & motorised vehicular transport to 'happen' in our parts.
Ours is the only bit of the M1 still cobbled :(

Ah, but has anyone actually met a Rotherhamite fit to be allowed to drive!?

Don_Kiddick 02-09-2005, 10:12 The Chuckle Brothers of course!
Classic Rock 02-09-2005, 10:17 Oi, I used to live in Rotherham. I'd say that Sheffield roads are far, far worse. When I take the trike out on them it wobbles all over the place - not good for the old back! Thankfully I've got the big, powerful, chunky, 4x4 to get around in, which cruises over these blotches in the road.

Perhaps its the driving of these rather heavy expensive vehicles that causes accelerated deterioration of the roads? :suspect:
People in poorer areas will own less vehicles on the whole and smaller lighter ones when they do.
Or maybe not.
