With all the bus fare increases I decided to dig out my bike today and cycle to work (I must be mad).
Does anyone have idea of any flatter routes than what I seemed to take.
I going from round the corner from Morrisons in Ecclesfield to Botanical Gardens/Brocco Bank.
Gosh,
I am a cyclist and that is a long way to go. You really want to avoid that MASSIVE hill from penistone road up to the traffic lights.
I suggest you go into town then out again?
Should be ok going downhill though.
I went to Hillsborough > Shirecliffe> Northern General > Lane top yesterday but I reckon theres quicker and flatter.
Took just over an hour yesterday and thats after not being on a bike for 3 years
Along wooley wood bottom, head towards meadowhall and onto the canal into town. Get off the canal at Victoria Quays, then make your way from there. .
Thanks Munky, I'll give it a try Monday.
Any other suggestions anyone?
Got the cycle map from Sheffield council site but isn't too helpful

I also live in Ecclesfield and commute to work everyday, infact pretty much the same neck of the woods as you are heading. The route i take is down to Morrisons at Hillborough ( going the Penistone Rd route ) then climb up Ripley St, Walkley Lane & Walkley Rd and come out at Broomhill shops but thats a 2km climb at about 1 in 10, takes me a steady 30 - 40 mins.
The flatest route would be like the previous post said down Wooly Wood Bottom heading towards Carlisle Street onto the Wicker head up to West Street and Glossop Rd.
I recommened going the Penistone Rd way past SWFC stright into town then West St , Glossop Rd.
But if you dont mind going up a small hill, instead of going into town head up Netherthorpe Rd to the University.
