There was a gents barbers in the block of shops at the corner of Stannington Road/Stanwood Avenue, around 1964. At least one of the people you mentionj worked there then.

yes the barbers shop was on the corner of what we kids used to called the groggy not sure if this was a made up name by people of if infact it is a porper word,most people who didnt live in that area would call it the mousehole.

When I lived in Stannington in the early 70's as a teenage lad I went in there once for a haircut. They had fancy chairs that allowed the hairdresser/barber to sit while he cut your hair. He sort of sat and span round you as he moved around cutting your hair - never saw those chairs anywhere else. Anyone remember them?
