I used to be a complete snob, but after seeing rich people in Germany shopping in Lidl and Netto. I get lots of stuff from Netto, and top up with visits to Spar or CoOp late shop.

Especially since I have been back on the motorbike, I don't like going into large supermarkets where I can't keep an eye on it.

I don't really do a weekly shop, just buy food as and when needed. We have a decent fruit and veg shop near us which is cheaper than supermarket prices, and a corner shop (which, er, isn't, but good if you run out of stuff!)
I particularly like Beanies, which sells great veg including organic, lots of yummy veggie sausages and all manner of wonderful foodstuffs. Get my shampoo and soap from the herbalists at Hunter's Bar.
Bread comes from the bakery at Nether Edge and for really special stuff there is a great deli on Sharrowvale Road. London Road has loads of great places to shop, including supermarkets for Chinese and Asian foods where you can buy spices very cheaply. I like smaller shops, they add to an area, so its good to try and support them if you can. However, I only work part time so I do sometimes have the odd afternoon spare so I can wander round and see what's there. I know lots of people work hard and have kids so supermarkets make sense time-wise.
That said, I'm not exactly Mrs Pennybags so ma and pa's larder comes in handy for raiding on a lean week!

We shop once a month at the fantastic LEMBAS in Meersbrook and once a week at Beanies for fruit and veg. We save a fooooortune using Lemabs and our creative cooking skills are put to the test with the box scheme system from Beanies. Despise supermarkets and only ever go if absol nec.

Either 'Tesco' at Foots Cray, 'Sainsbury's' at Chislehurst or 'Sainsbury's' at Crayford. Depending upon where dad is in the world!
A 'Morrison's' near us opened in the late 1990s, and I didn't like their meat, so we switched back to 'Saisbury's'.

It tends to be Asda Handsworth mostly... (Sometimes find myself in the George dept, when all I went in for was bread... lol)
Then its Morrisons @ Catcliffe ... Usually on petrol days though!
Then if I'm just after a few bits, I tend to pop to Budgens in WestOne, or pop over to Tescos on West St...

I occasionally.. and I do mean occasionally... Go to the big tesco on Abbeydale road... I like it there... Nice layout, shame theres not enough clothes though! lol - I should go more often!

I shop at Lembas too.. great way to get organic/fairtrade/environmentally friendly products cheaply.

I also get veg from Banana Bobs and the odd thing from Waitrose on my way home from work (they do some specific things that no-one else does).. but for everything else I go to Sainsburys archer road cos they have the widest range of everything there.

Used to shop at Safeway then Tesco all the time but couldn't anymore cos once you get used to the range and quality in Sainburys its impossible to go back...

Its great for when you're feeling uninspired cos theres loads of posh random products to get you into cooking something totally different. And they have the best range of organic products of any super market if you ask me..

Oooh i'm really interested in Lembas and the other thing - box scheme? Please tell me more.

I usually shop at Asda (Handsworth) because it's the nearest place, pretty good value and a reasonable selection. Sometimes a little un-inspiring though.

I've done some shopping on-line and when I do, I use Tesco's.

Do the weekly shop online with Sainsbury's, anything else pop to Tesco's on West St (:( )

For special treats (i.e luxurious ready meals) we go to M+S or Waitrose...hmmm hungry now!

Can't vote! I no longer have a car, and thus no longer do a weekly shop.

I shop at Netto (just down the road from my house) - for essentials.....and when I know I can avoid the long queues at the check-out!

I often shop at Somerfield in the city centre, as it's dead handy when I'm in town.

Tonight I caught the bus to Woodseats, where I shopped at Tesco, then walked to Spar for a few things, and then walked up the hill to Morrisons to complete my shopping trip.

When I'm out and about in Arbourthorne or Heeley Green, I shop at the Co-op!

When staying with my partner in Hull, I shop at the nearby Sainsburys.

Only go to Waitrose 10 mins before closing time - to see what bargains can be had! Otherwise, it's too expensive for shopping.

Tesco and I do it online:)
Cannot BEAR supermarkets, especially with a 2 year old in tow so we do our shopping online and it's delivered to our door for £3.99 - well worth it!

I only shop at supermarkets in emergancies - like when it's 6.30pm, I've just finished work and there's no food in the cupboards.

Generally though, I try to be a bit more organised and support local producers. I shop at Edinburgh farmers market most saturdays, which is great for locally grown produce and locally farmed fish. It's great value too - the other week I bought a whole organic trout for under £2, and they're about £6 in Sainburys. I have a couple of local organic supermarkets that I visit.

Supermarkets are responsible for a lot of evils in the world, including releasing greenhouse gases, factory farming, animal cruelty, packaging waste, and the demise of local grocery stores.

Mum does our shopping at a combination of Morrisons in Hillsborough and Tesco's on Infirmary Road (which actually isn't 24 hour despite advertisement to the contrary :loopy: ), mostly Tesco's though.. Morisson's just takes too long to get round all the aisles IMO.

Meat from the butchers, fruit and veg from the greengrocers everything else from Morrisons.

Meat from the supermarket (even the more up-market ones) is rubbish compared to that of a good butcher.

The same goes for fruit and veg, the stuff from the supermarket is insipid and tasteless compared to stuff from a decent greengrocer.

Gotcha! Saw you in Tesco, Infirmary Road last week - not only did you not say hello, you haven't mentioned it on your list!

That is where I do my weekly shop - and I have seen other Forumers in there too.

They are only closed when it would be illegal for them to open due to the Sunday trading regulations.
