We're thinking of having a stair runner fitted, and some brass stair rods to make the hallway & staircase look a bit more interesting!

We've heard mixed messages about it - stuff like, it's easy to fit yourself, to it's tricky and expensive, and natural carpets (sisal grass etc) isn't hard wearing enough for stairs.... so we're really in two minds now about whether or not to go for it, or have a standard stair carpet.

Has anyone had one fitted? Any info on prices, suppliers, ease of DIY fitting , comfort & quality appreciated!

thanks

If you have a runner, it's easier to do that old fashioned thing where you move the carpet up/down by a couple of inches progressively to even out the wear.

I think they look great, and you should always choose a stair quality carpet for stairs, or it will wear out too quickly ;)

I dunno on this as what you say is a bit 'oldie worldy' not a contempory look IMO....

They are a lot of ways you can update your staircase ie., by changing the ballisters to chrome rods or wrought iron and a standard fitted stair carpet will still look very nice!
