I want to grow peas in a drain pipe which I have cut loads of holes in. I was originally going to put it up against a wall for them to climb up but it would be a much better use of space if I could just hang the pipe up horizontally and have them drape down hanging basket style! Will they waste all their pea growing energy trying to grow upwards or will they just go with the flow?

Are you talking to yourself again ?
That's what comes of sitting on an allotment too long :D

Apparently you can :)
Love this idea - are you actually growing them in drainpipe or just starting them? Is there enough soil in there to grow or have you made some mods? I have the perfect place for one of these if it works!
Apparently you can :)
Let us know how you get on. I've all but given up on peas as the mice alawys get them before I do.
I'm sure I've seen a specific variety of pea for growing in hanging baskets and tubs, so I imagine that you'd be able to use that variety as long as there's plenty of nutrients and moisture available, which I think would be the major issue with leaving them for even a day in hot weather when they're not in the soil proper.
Neeeeeeeeeek would be great to have some photos and an update during the season as to whether it is successful.

Get one of these and you won't have trouble with mice anymore.
