I guess that in modern history my favourite two Prime Ministers would have to be Winston Churchill, because he got things done and Harold Wilson, because he was honest and did what he said he would do.

Other than that they were all a waste of time.

I don't actually remember Wilson saying that he was going to drag the country to total economic disaster and leave us begging for handouts from the IMF ... but maybe I missed that speech.

And, to be fair to him, he wasn't the only one responsible. It took thirty years to get the country into such a hideous mess that we needed such painful measures in the Eighties to sort it out again.

What about Gladstone? I don't know of any other Prime Minister with as many statues erected in his honour other than Churchill?

Oh dear, your memory is obviously failing you dear boy. Ah well, you should welcome senility as it is preferential to your present confused state of mind.

Harold Macmillan, because he looked like the grandpa I wanted and never had :)

Mrs Thatcher because, although she annoyed me enormously, she had courage, always fought the UK's corner and tried to make people take responsibility for themselves instead of relying on the State or the Council for every little thing.
