View Full Version : What do you use to clean your car Zinger549 31-08-2005, 08:16 what do you use to clean your car and how do you clean it. I don't mean taking it to a car wash I mean washing it yourself H.P 31-08-2005, 08:18 At the moment the rain :hihi: But when it does get an occasional wash I use a bucket of water with a spot of washing up liquid and a sponge, scrub off all the bird dodo and if its lucky sometimes a coat of wax.... DragonofAna 31-08-2005, 08:20 My kids. Well - not actually use them as in the way I would use a sponge. But my kids wash my car. Fairy washing up liquid works fine as long as you rinse it off properly. Wilks do a nice car and wax wash. Dragon GazB 31-08-2005, 09:08 Erm, my Mum.. :D Strix 31-08-2005, 09:12 Well, as I can't reach the roof on a Zafira, I can't remember the last time the lid came of the Turtle (Wax) Shampoo - it always goes to the Arc wash - usually the one in Darnall, near Litha's shop, with the alsation who Brude tries to say hello to and smears snotty nose prints all over the windows  SupraSteve 31-08-2005, 09:23 I used to use AutoGlym shampoo and bodywork conditioner, then dry the car off by hand and finish it off with some of their normal polish (the one with the red label, not the gold one) and a lot of cotton cloths. Then I'd use AutoGlym fast glass on all the windows & mirrors, inside & out. Autoglym upholstery cleaner, vinyl & leather cleaner, clean wheels, tyre dressing, etc etc etc. Now I have some better shampoo & polish imported from Germany (called 'Sonax'), but the Autoglym stuff is still very good. If your paintwork has gone off a bit, use Autoglym 'paint renovator' to bring it back to it's former glory - follow the instructions exactly tho else you could mess it up, which is annoying. HTH :) Lestat 31-08-2005, 09:25 I used this (http://www.scarletparkway.com/images/WET%20CAT.JPG) last time :D savbaby 31-08-2005, 09:26 Originally posted by SupraSteve I used to use AutoGlym shampoo and bodywork conditioner, then dry the car off by hand and finish it off with some of their normal polish (the one with the red label, not the gold one) and a lot of cotton cloths. Washing up liquid is supposed to be very bad for your car's paintwork 1Man&hisBMW 30-09-2005, 03:38 washing up liquid is bad for the paint (makes it look dull and the surface feels dry and not as smooth as it should be). I use Zymol Shampoo, then leather down with Autoglym Leather. Then depending on the weather, either Autoglym polish, or Mer Polish, or US Imported Fireglaze Polish. Autoglym glass cleaner on the glass, followed by RainX. Halfords Interior Spray for the inside (smells neutral, and leaves a non-shiny but clean finish) Job done! UnkleBob 30-09-2005, 21:44 STARDROPS! No kidding peeps, as good as owt else on the market! 75p for a 600ml bottle, and you can wash alloys, bodywork, engine, mats and upholstery with the magic Drops! Mix it with hot water for washing the car, add it to a spray bottle with water for seats, carpets and mats. you can also put it in your power washer if you have one, in the detergent reservoir. Top stuff! fuzzy 30-09-2005, 21:48 A child. :D seems to work better than wen i do it. star 30-09-2005, 21:50 i use that hand car wash near hyde park good lads! lol Ginner 30-09-2005, 22:31 Originally posted by bulldog D ...And believe it or not you can pay a grand for a pot of Car polish!:gag: :D :) Those crazy concours guys eh? I seem to recall reading about the hardcore detailers cleaning cars under ultraviolet cos it shows the swirls up better? I use Swissol Onyx wax once a month on mine. Hand washed every week. the_rudeboy 01-10-2005, 12:05 Originally posted by dishwasher Ordinary washing-up liquid. Soap is soap, isn't it? Elbow grease comes in useful though! Washing up liquid washes off wax and so makes your paintwork look dull. deano 01-10-2005, 12:12 The problem with stuff like Stardrops and washing up liquid, apart from stripping the protective coating from the paint is they also dissolve oil,so places that should be lubricated like door hinges end up dry,so unless you lube them after washing it will eventually cause problems!! Use a car shampoo, not very expensive at all .... less than a quid and will last ages  Drut 01-10-2005, 13:57 TFR and Wheel Acid Preasure washer with wash and wax and a sponge.
