View Full Version : I just got cold chips out of our kitchen bin and heated them up. Yum!
Draggletail 31-08-2005, 00:37 Ok.......
It's been a bit of a long and trying night and day, to say the least....... (New baby running rings 'round us)
Anyway, we had to call at the chippy for our tea due to one thing and another. afterwards there were some chips left over so I left them wrapped in the paper, put them in the plastic carrier bag that they came in and chucked them into the kitchen bin.
So decided to treat myself to a couple of beers down the pub to calm myself from all the stress, and came home feeling starving but too tired to make anything to eat........
OK, are you getting the picture?
Yeh, I got the chippies out of the kitchen bin and put 'em in the micro.
Best chips I ever tasted :D :gag:
To get to the point - have you got an equally gross eating experience? or even worse?
Oh, by the way - I have previous experience
Would YOU have shared a sandwich with this dog? (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=15942&highlight=sandwich+dog+share)
Your an animal Draggletail!!!!
Although i'm on my 4th can now and the left over special fried rice is looking tempting :suspect:

Fried rice! Don't tempt me - we had that the other day - I'll be down in the bottom of the bin shortly :D
redrobbo 31-08-2005, 01:28 I've just finished reading the sandwich-eating doggy saga, and now this thread! I've laughed so much! :hihi: :heyhey:
Feel I should tune into tomorrow night to read the anticipated thread on how to scavenge through the neighbour's dustbin for tasty left-over scraps.
Draggle - have you thought of running a tipster's page for down and outs, e.g., Top Tip No.1. The correct way to rummage through a litter-bin for a half-eaten Big Mac! Yummy!
Splodge_CRB 31-08-2005, 02:01 Nowt wrong wi that Draggle, you ate better than we did! :D
Every Tuesday friends come round for a meal before we head for the pub and every Tuesday we've had a domestic disaster of some sort :suspect:
1st Tues: burnt Jacket spuds
2nd: late getting back, strange combination of whatever we could find that would fit under the grill
3rd: Same thing, but this time we burnt it all
4th: Emergency babysitting. Time left for cooking? um... that ended in a very strange looking stirfry, 90% of which was left on the plates
5th: (a mere few hours ago) Actually produced a decent looking paella! however it sat in the paella pan for too long and developed a really bitter metallic taste. 99% left on plates.
Our friends have now offered to come round earlier next week and cook us a meal instead
I know that Mardi Gras means fat Tuesday.....anyone know what thin Tuesday is? :(
Now why is it that Pizza always seems to last the night sat in a warm kitchen better than your average rice/chips type takeaways?
It was still in it's box and only at the side of the bin :suspect:

I'm afraid I need to act the killjoy over the fried rice thing.
I too love reheated left over rice, but it is a rather risky thing to do. If proper hygienic storage (bin?) and refrigeration is not observed you do run a significant risk of Bacillus cereus poisoning, a rather nasty form of toxic food poisoning.
What is so dangerous (and it's what makes Salmonella and E coli so dangerous too) is that the bacteria produce compounds which are toxic to us, and which are not destroyed by the reheating of the rice. So even reheated correctly and with the bacteria killed, this can still make you REALLY ill, with the potential for extreme nausea and vomiting, with diarrhoea and dehydration severe enough for hospitalisation.
That's the bad news. The good news? Bacillus cereus only usually grows on rice, so you should be absolutely fine with elderly chips!

What's this "we", Splodge???? I had no part in this!!!
Don_Kiddick 31-08-2005, 13:57 Few weeks ago the lassy who temps for us at work left a half eaten bacon egg & sausage roll in top of the filing cabinet (in it's carton) - She'd nipped out for it at lunch to the dog-van up the road.
She rang me at 7pm from home to tell me what she'd done & to bin it for her.
It didn't make it to the bin  it looked too nice with all that solidified lard n ketchup.
Well I was on 12 hour days & hungry...
:P Mmmm
On Sunday night, my mate paid £4.50 and waited 10 minutes for a greasy half pound cheeseburger.. Only for him to walk out with it, then someone knock it out if his hands and the 2 burgers inside the bun slapped across the pavement..
My other mate decided to pick them both up, start eating one, put the other back on my mates tray.. and said "Get it eaten". Which he did, but said it was a bit gritty..
The same friend who picked it up was in the subway the other week and, for some unknown reason, slammed his half eaten sandwich on the floor inside. 5 seconds later, he picked it up, put it back together and carried on eating.. He said it didn't taste right, so picked up a bit of tomato from the floor, put it on the sarnie, took a bite and said "Much better".
:D
EDIT: Another experience.. I once bought a large kebab (della?) pizza on a Wednesday night, but only ate half, closed the box and put it on the floor in my car. Thursday and Friday were very warm days, so it was just baking away in the heat.. Come Friday afternoon, I was sat in work and very hungry, so decided to nip to the car, take the pizza out, stick it in the work microwave and eat the lot.. Yum :)
slimsid2000 31-08-2005, 14:22 You swine - you have quite put me off my tripe and onions and cow's heel jelly.:suspect:
Draggletail 31-08-2005, 16:46 GazB - I'm obviously a newbie at this lark compared to you and your mates :D
No way I can compete with that :hihi:
Anyone else?
