What does everyone think of the Hotel in the Peace Gardens now that its fully on show?.

I happen to think it sits quite nicely next to the Town hall, like the green windows against the stone cladding.

The office block is slowly growing on me,although i prefer the side view looking from Curry's end, less of the tacky stone cladding on that side, but saying that the final floor looks a bit more striking. And the whiole block may look better when it gets a sister building.

Walked around the City Hall yesterday for the first time and have to say that i like the new road layout and materials they have used, and the modern lamp posts contrast nicely with the older buildings in the area. Looks like the water features are going to be huge.

The train station is starting to look good, and a night the new internal lights on the roof give off a nice blue glow through the glass ceiling which looks really cool.

The old Job centre at the bottom of West Street that has been reclad looks a bit naff 3/10

Liking the new feature that are going into millenium Square, looks like its going to be rather modern pity about the naff name!

Anybody got an idea what area of Fountain Precinct this could be in.Is it where the main entrance is to the office block?

Wonder what four shops would want a prime location next to City Hall/Leopold Square?
Something classy please!

I avoid the city centre as much as possible these days - mainly due to the amount of traffic and lack of parking. So, I haven't seen the new building yet.

You refer to the old jobcentre at the bottom of West Street? Do you mean Steel City House? From what I can gather, the building is listed (is this right?) and the DWP who own the property had quite strict restrictions placed upon them when the building was being modernised a few years ago?

I actually like the hotel, it doesn't look as imposing as I thought it would and looks ok with the Winter Gardens and the Town Hall, the stone and glass works realy well to soften the building.

However, the office block the other side of the Peace Gardens is another matter.

I used to think the same.....but it's growing on me and I do think it'll look better when all three blocks are built.

I completely agree. The hotel seems nice but the office block is horrible. What's the betting they'll demolish it in a nother regeneration scheme sometime in the next 20-30 years?

I agree, we'll wait to see what it looks like finished, and with the new square infront.

I think its a shame that you can't really see the winter gardens from anywhere any more. You can hardly even see them when you're inside them, they're surrounded from all sides! Seems a waste of a very impressive building...
