Hi,

can anyone get msde to install on win2k3 Server

For some reason it won't install...it gets to the last 3 seconds, then goes backwards with no warnings or error messages and simply doesn't install!

According to MS it will support 2k3 but I think they lie!

I've ran the setup in compatability mode and even tried using apcompat and still no joy

Anyone got any clues?

Have just downloaded MSDE Release A and installed it on a Windows 2003 Standard Edition server with Service Pack 1. I had to specify an instance name and strong sa password, just running setup.exe resulted in an "invalid instance name" error.

Can only suggest you turn on Windows Installer debugging and get a log file of the install and see what's going wrong.

Thanks guys,

I've been doing what you've said, but I'm not getting anywhere

Will try re-service packing the box and go from there, is all very strange though

Have a look at this:-

You cannot install MSDE 2000 if the Server service is not running: http://support.microsoft.com/?id=829386

A Google search shows there seem to be quite a few problems with installing MSDE. Good luck.
