View Full Version : Dear Alan Irvine
Earwiggo 21-04-2010, 17:53 IF you want to give Wednesday any chance of staying in the Championship, PLEASE leave Tudgay out of the squad altogether for the last two remaining games.
We have struggled long enough with 10 men, and to do it for the final two games would be suicide.
And Tudgay, should you play, and should you score, WHY haven't you put the effort in for the last 3 months?
You and one or two other 'players' have disgraced, and sabotaged my team this season.
I hope to God, you're not at Hillsborough next season, but as you're not bothered if we go down (and you of course are faaaaaaaaaaaaaaar too good for this club, and this league) I suppose you couldn't give a flying fart.
Just do us Owls a favour. Score the goals to keep us in this division, then pee off to Burnley or some other backwater.
alex3659 21-04-2010, 18:08 Mr Strafford says it is the stay away fans fault wednesday are in such a mess.

Does he? Do you have any evidence?
I've seen him trying to encourage more fans to attend. I can't see anything wrong with that.
Titanic99 21-04-2010, 19:29 I think neither Clarke nor Tudgay should be playing this week!

The evidence is in what he said.
Only the stay away fans to blame for no money for players etc.
Take your head out of the sand.

Actually he said it would be the fans fault if investment didn't happen and they had to step up.
He also said players would have to be sold.
I have just looked it up and was gonna post a link but decided it would be better for you to get your head from up his arse and search it yourself.

That is fact.

Blamed fans for no investment.
Blamed fans for having to sell players or player.
Nit pick on the word "mess" but it's all the same.:loopy:.
Fact live with it, the rest of the genuine fans have already.

I'll just pull up EVERY quote LS has made since becoming Chairman and post it on here.

NERVY-OWL 21-04-2010, 20:04 sorry earwiggo but i can't agree. who would we play instead? i do feel tudgay has been trying but had to do the creating aswell as scoring. he is on the kind of goal tally i would expect from him anyway. i don't think he should be up front though, would rather him be played on the wing though
Blue Day 21-04-2010, 20:12 Go on then........

What do you think about the ops letter to Alan Irvine?
Do you think he is picking the wrong squad and not doing his job well enough?
Blue Day 21-04-2010, 20:17 What do you think about the ops letter to Alan Irvine?
Do you think he is picking the wrong squad and not doing his job well enough?
ooh quick change of subject......
:D
We're all better than the manager aren't we. It's easy to sit and slag off what should / shouldn't be done.
For the record, LS' fault was not sacking Laws earlier. Our record under Irvine hasn't been bad considering.... He's had to play with what he inherited (except the couple he brought on loan such as Nolan who's been v. good).
I despair at Clarke - and moreso Tudders who's been shybo since he signed his new contract. The only option he hasn't tried is Jeffers and I'd like to know the real reason why. Every player was supposed to have a clean slate when AI arrived but FJ9 has hardly got a look in.
CorkerSWFC 21-04-2010, 20:20 Doesn't matter who plays now, they have had 44 games to prove they were good enough either to get in the team or do it when they get selected, the players now need to find character and determination.
Go on then........
See, Alex, you can't do it, can you?
Lee Strafford has consistently stated that the playing budget is directly linked to gate receipts, that is no surprise. It is also a bit of basic economics that the Blades are going to have to get used to as well. I can't see the hotel takings making up for the loss of parachute payments, can you?
He has never blamed stay away fans for anything as far as I can remember. He has simply stated that we can't spend what we don't earn. You seem curiously unable to back up your claim and you have resorted to petty abuse instead. Well done.
CorkerSWFC 21-04-2010, 20:26 Some peeps were expecting Tudgay to score plenty this season but hes never been that prolific, he's a link up striker rather than a goalscorer, he's needed someone alongside him who's an onion bag kinda player for a couple of years now.

completely agree. he will never get 20 goals, i was surprised he got so many last season. if i was to drop anyone i'd drop clarke and give jeffers a go

It also hasn't helped the number of times he's been played wide....
But - as I said, he just hasn't looked interested.

Look - I aint gonna argue the toss for hours and hours....
But
I go on Owlstalk - have done for years. There's plenty of Strafford 'knockers' on there who'd have hung drawn and quartered him if he'd directly said what you've claimed. He has had a go at fans in the past of that there's no doubt.
But he has NEVER blamed stay away fans for the mess the club is in. F'k me I'm amazed at the support this club has had during the past 10 years!!!
CorkerSWFC 21-04-2010, 20:34 It also hasn't helped the number of times he's been played wide....

He still doesnt get into the positions a striker should if he's thrown up top either.
He's been so non existent this season im sick of moaning about him.
My dad started saying he was crap last year up at St James at half time and a couple of Wednesdayites laughed it off, he's been proven now hasn't he.
His heart aint in it because were ****e and hes part of the reason why we are, its a team game at the end of the day also though and theres plenty who could take the crappest player of the season award, Tommy Spurr for instance a bit crap if you ask me.

Very well supported club, but he did say if the fans didn't come someone would go in january mate. He also said it would not help any potential investment.
The man set stupid targets anyway.
Still in denial.
There's loads on here already to back it up if you can be bothered.
There is loads on here about yellow glowing UFOs all over the city. They don't exist either.
You've made an ill informed and incorrect claim. You could at least admit it.

No I didn't.
Chinese lanterns mate.

He scored plenty from wide last year. I think that he is a much more influential player in midfield anyway.
I don't actually buy the idea that he isn't trying, but something isn't right. It is possibly the style of hoofball that we have resorted to under Irvine that is to blame.
In any case, he is far too good a player to drop for our two most important games in years.
No I didn't.
Just one little quote, from the man himself. That is all it would take.
Chinese lanterns mate.
You don't say.
Blue Day 21-04-2010, 20:42 Very well supported club, but he did say if the fans didn't come someone would go in january mate. He also said it would not help any potential investment.

I know where you're coming from, and I've been critical of LS before and his digs at the fans....
btw
No one went in January. Wood went a bit earlier but he was always gonna go anyway.

yea, i bet half the goals he scored last season were while he was on the wing. he might not be completely right but he is having to do the job of a defender, creative midfielder and striker. something might not be right but he can't be dropped for the last 2 games

Its obvious what the problem is to me, Laws carried on believing in playing the ball on the floor so Tudgay got more of the ball as he plays deep.
Now Irvine is in charge the ball is getting knocked long into the channels or knocked long for one of the strikers to win headers right on top of the centre backs which isn't Tudgays strength at all.
He's getting bypassed hence the reason he doesn't seem to be on the ball as much.
Tigerfan 21-04-2010, 20:46 Have to say I attended my first match for 3 years on Sunday so perhaps should not comment but.
Will someone tell Grant he his allowed to throw the ball out and therefore set up an attack himself and it is not written in stone he has to wait for the opponents defence to get back in to position to defend his aimless hoof upfield.
I sincerely hope that AI does not choose Leon Clarke I have seen some pretty poor strikers at S6 since my visit in 1966 but am actually struggling to name one who have turned in such an inept performance as this guy did on Sunday.
Oh god yes I just have Tudgay I may have seen players with a lot less skill than this guy has but have never seen a player show so little commitment to the shirt, If he had put half the effort in during the match as he did talking the game up in the press he may just have fared a lot better.
In my opinion we need a miracle to stay up and we aint gonna get it with those two in the front line.
You need paasion and commitment not big ego.

Glad thats cleared up.
Anyway this is about a letter to Irvine.
Panthera 21-04-2010, 21:59 i had tudgay in my champ fantasy team for the first half of the season as soon as i got rid i started climbing the league, stick him on the wing, least he might be able to stick some crosses in the box.
Earwiggo 22-04-2010, 17:21 sorry earwiggo but i can't agree. who would we play instead? i do feel tudgay has been trying but had to do the creating aswell as scoring. he is on the kind of goal tally i would expect from him anyway. i don't think he should be up front though, would rather him be played on the wing though
From what I've seen this season, and listening to people who go almost every week, I think ANY player at Hillsborough picked in the side would at least put in 80% more effort than Tudgay, and they'd not be too far behind in the 'skill' aspect either.
Some peeps were expecting Tudgay to score plenty this season but hes never been that prolific, he's a link up striker rather than a goalscorer, he's needed someone alongside him who's an onion bag kinda player for a couple of years now.
Some were talking about Tudgay getting 15 to 20 this season after he hit a fairly quick 9 earlier in the season.
completely agree. he will never get 20 goals, i was surprised he got so many last season. if i was to drop anyone i'd drop clarke and give jeffers a go
With more effort and interest, after hitting the 9 mark what seems like 6 months ago, he could have got a lot nearer to 20 this time than he actually has achieved. When did he last score .............. ???
i had tudgay in my champ fantasy team for the first half of the season as soon as i got rid i started climbing the league, stick him on the wing, least he might be able to stick some crosses in the box.
Ditto with you Army, 9 goals and looking good, then he clocked off, and has been a major reason Wednesday are in this mess.
Do we think Jeffers could give a flying if he was brought in as a saviour now?
I'd certainly put Varney back in the middle, with maybe JJ. I'd contemplate Tudgay wide right, but I just reckon we'd work harder and threaten more without him.
I know Esajas has not done himself any favours again this season, but if he decided to play as he can, he could make a real difference. One free kick 20 to 25 yards out could be the only chance he needs. Then again, WHY should he care one jot?
I can see it now, Tudgay fires the winner at Cardiff, and I get the biggest egg EVER on my face.
I blinkin' well hope so.
I said earlier that the only word you didn't like was "mess" so I rephrased it in my next post.

Anyway this is about a letter to Irvine. With all respect alex have yopu nothing better to do than bang on.the thread is valid because tudgay as been a waste of space over the last couple of months.did you not see him Sunday.ffs:rolleyes:
Earwiggo 22-04-2010, 17:46 Varney and JJ buzzing round the box, at least would increase our chances of gaining a penalty or two, which, at the moment would easily be our best chance of scoring.

With all due respect the man in this thread is writing letters on here to Irvine slagging his team choice etc without ever attending a game.
No I didn't go on Sunday so can't comment on Tudgays performance.
Do you think Irvine is not doing his job properly? the op clearly does think that way in this letter.

Hi Brooksy.
Trust Tudgay to get one today after my little rant, but I sort of knew he'd put some egg on my face.
As for the other poster on here who says I NEVER go to the games, don't believe him as he just loves to repeat the same digs all the time.
Tudgay did a lot more today than I've seen him do for some time, and he didn't do that much today.
He did well to squeeze it in from that angle though.
Shame he hasn't turned up for the last 3 months.
CorkerSWFC 24-04-2010, 16:39 He seemed to play in central midfield for most of the game, the last half hour he definatley did.
We seemed way to narrow till Esajas came on, he seemed to make a big difference.

Irvine is doing his job properly, as is Blackwell at the Lane.
Dunt mean you can't disagree with him though does it? We can't all agree all of the time (unless it's all Blades agreeing against anything Wednesday).
Henderson kept being picked for every game for United, and we had shed loads of Blades telling Blackwell he was wrong.
I just think picking Tudgay for every game over the last few weeks, was a wrong decision, and a change may have been better. Then again, it could have been worse, we'll never know.
Oh, and you're right of course, I NEVER go to the games, as I don't know where Hillsborough is.

A few people, (me included) have suggested Jeffers in a central midfield role.
Starting with Tudgay up front, then putting him back in to CENTRAL midfield?
You can say it 'worked', cause he scored, but Clarke out wide left certainly didn't (although he should have scored as well, with at least one good chance). Esajas looked in the mood and nearly produced for us again, but didn't have long enough on the pitch.
Unless Varney was injured, I think he should have left him on, seeing as he's our most potent recent striker.
Losing JJ again was another blow.

Potter and O'conner couldn't handle Bothroyd and especially Whittingham, thats an area which is definately a cause for concern for the future.

To be fair, not many Championship players could shackle those two.
If we'd taken our chances, we'd have won.
If they'd taken all their chances, they'd have got 7 or 8.
C'mon Brunty and the Baggies, and c'mon Wednesday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think what Alex was referring to was when LS went on Praise or Grumble one night, straight after a game, and complained because the gate was less than 20k when he had budgeted for 25k. He went on to say he personally had no money to put into the club so unless the gate picked up he would be selling players rather than adding players. Can't remember the date but it was an unusual rant. Didn't go down well with the supporters (and I use the word "supporters" as the ones who phoned in and complained after were the ones who had stuck by the club through thick and thin and paid money over the turnstyles year in, year out).
