Make sure you do a warm down routine, including stretching excercises.

A hot bath before bed also helps, and in the really bad cases - massage

actually a cold shower or bath might help more if you can do it within 10 mins of finishing the exercise.
And then heat later.

Unlikely that the cramp is caused by lack of salt in your diet, although that is one possible cause.

Have you got a good pair of trainers on to cushion your legs from impact, that might help too.

yes, being properly hydrated is important too. Water or watered down fruit juice, or a sports isotonic drink. They're all good.

Banannas are good for cramp, they contain a fair amount of potassium which helps prevent cramp

Quinine is also good for cramps, found in indian tonic water, i believe it is just as effective whether with gin or not ;)

My husband gets very bad cramp in his calf muscles.I have an electric heat wrap (from Boots),and plug this in straight away, and wrap it round one calf, and then the other.Keep it on as long as you can. For at least fifteen minutes.
