there sems to be a lot of united fand on here, but wednesday always have more home fans at the maches than united, even when they were in the legue below!
so i thort i'd do a poll to see...

carcrash 30-08-2005, 14:50 We have done this so many time before.
Do a search mate- there are LOADS of threads talking about this :D
spyro2000 30-08-2005, 15:02 Im an Aston Villa fan myself. But out of the 2 Sheffield teams I would say I prefer United.
Who cares. They're both crap. Watch Premiership and see if they would survive against Chelsea, Arsenal etc. I doubt it.

Every team in the UK might as well fold then. After all, what's the point of football if you can't compete with the elite?
this has been done to death:(
Zinger549 30-08-2005, 20:02 the thread should be closed done to many times
Do you mean to tell me there are 3 teams in sheffield...?:hihi:

hhmmmm -if i remember correctly we were the only team that didn't loose to arsenal over 90 minutes last season, they had to take us the penalties to beat us!!
I dont think Wednesday have got themselves together so far this season and with all the injuries thay've suffered its not looking good.....so as much as i hate to say it I think they will probably lose against United at best get a draw
where has ur faith gone in our home teams??!!??
So we aint top of the premiership, who cares i dnt i'll support my home team (the mighty barmy army) all the way even if they were in the conference,
and as some one said we have more fans come to our home games than the pig's do (a.k.a blades)

wow, that realy makes alot of difference doesn't it?
when will the piggy fans realise that it don't matter how many fans you have in your ground- its results on the pitch that matter!
I would support United. (Just for the record!)
Would love to see both back in the Premiership, but I suspect Utd will get there before Wednesday. It would be nice to have Premiership football back in the city again.

mikeyspikey 12-09-2005, 16:36 why do so many owls fans go on about having more fans than the blades!!--its what happens on the pitch that counts!!--ie-glance at league table!

The fact is wednesday do have more fans, not only from sheffield but from other areas, but as a season ticket holder for 23 years...... it means sod all... the blades are top of the league.... "three" points is what matters. Utd will without a doubt will finish top dog in this city this season, but theres more to football than just winning. Theres lots of Passion, and Pride between our 2 teams and id like to see them both do well....... even if looking at the league makes me..........:gag:
Wednesday have always had a wider and larger fan base than United. The results from research conducted by Sheffield Hallam University a while ago suggested that the Owls were more of a 'family' team, and United [who I support] generally viewed as a young man's team with a rougher image due to the greater notoriety of the so-called 'hooligan' element. As other posters have suggested, Wednesday seem to attract more support in areas surrounding Sheffield too.
The idea that alliegance to strictly one or the other runs in the family, and being a 'Blade' or an 'Owl' is handed down like some hereditary caste is mistaken. I know several families split in terms of alliegance to either side. In my case, my paternal great grandfather was one of the first Unitedites, his sons including my paternal grandfather all supported Wednesday, my own late father followed suit and was a fanatical Owl, but I honour the original alliegance to the Blades.
I am delighted with United's excellent start to the season, and like Madowl would really like to see both sides do well. Ideally, with Sheffield as the home of football and having the status of being Britain's fourth largest city, we should have both clubs in the top flight. However much we love our sides, we have to admit that, considering the 'passion and pride' [as Madowl phrases it] they inspire, their trophy cabinets are nothing to boast about. In terms of historical achievements on the pitch, neither club has justified the often fanatical support they have received. As Bernard Manning once said, 'Sheffield people have a great sense of humour; they have to do with football teams like that'...
waddle86 29-09-2005, 10:31 sheffield wednesday for me!

When have the blades EVER had any money - lol!! We have ALWAYS been a selling club, its only this season we have hung onto our best players under offers on money.
Scottf,
As a Blade, I agree with you. United have never had money to throw around. Warnock's budget, relatively-speaking [even the recently improved version] is, in terms of relative 'clout', to make an analogy, rather like you and I going for a night on the town with a couple of lousy quid between us! Obviously, economic factors matter.
However, I was just thinking of the 'wider picture'. In terms of historical success, neither team have justified the levels of support [which reaches levels of passion probably only outstripped by Glasgow Rangers/Celtic], and the status of Sheffield as England's fourth largest city.
Captain_Scarlet 05-10-2005, 08:25 Don't think it's very wise to be seen wearing an owls shirt around town these days ... You still see them open their mouths even in view of the circumstances ... Trust an owl to make a fool of itselfbut theres more to football than just winningThat's what losers say lol.
I'm keeping my mouth shut concerning the end of the season as it often happens that blades start well and mess it up after a while... all I can say is continue the good work, same for you Owls, keep up the good work and go back to Division 2.
go on InternetOwl, do some trolling
