Hi I've got these growing in my tubs that contain a twisted willow and a maple acer and i'm wondering if anyone knows what they are?

My initial thought was tomato plants! but what I know about gardening could fit on the back of a postage stamp. Thanks for looking :)

it's highly unlikely that it'll be tomato plants as they they wouldn't survive the cold.
It looks somethink like a form of parsley. What you could do is hang on and see if it flowers...as a weed is only something grown in the wrong place.

I'll wait and see then, thanks!

Creeping buttercup? It's hard to tell from the photo.

Creeping buttercup? It's hard to tell from the photo.I think so too.

If you don't really want any plants in there other than the shrubs, I'd pull it out now. If it is creeping buttercup, it's a real thug.

Looks a bit like one of the carrot family, so probably a weed (the photo is pretty blurred)

Also, itlooks like it's coming from a pretty big, chopped off root a fair distance underground, so you may have to dig deep. I use one of those long thin trenching spades so I can get really deep without disturbing the soil too much,

It isn't creeping buttercup, the leaf is all wrong.
It could be juvenile cow parsley: http://www.english-country-garden.com/a/i/flowers/cow-parsley-3.jpg
To be honest, there are so many wild plants with a similar appearance, I've done some wildflower surveying in the past, but I'm probably better at what it isn't than what it is :)

I've always uprooted extraneous plants from pots, purely because I feel that plants in pots don't need any further competition for water and nutrition...but I would say, one man's weed is another man's delight, so you can always wait to find out how it matures, then decide.

Is creeping buttercup the one with a silvery grey patch on the leaf?
