I just got back from holiday with too much alcohol and enjoyment than should be possible in a week.

I came to the realisation that if i hadn't been drunk or doing other things, would i have enjoyed myself as much. I decided that i didn't know and to try and sort this out i came up with a plan.

I am going to give up alcohol, drugs and sex for at least a month, to see if i enjoy myself as much, and also to see how i feel not contaminated by any chemicals. I think it might be anothe rform of conciousness expansion.

Does anyone else think this is a good idea? have they any stories to tell about if they have ever tried something like this?

Good luck with it, I hope you have the determination to see it through.
My only advice is : Drink LOTS of water.

Likewise, good luck with it, it's a hell of a New Year's resolution. I can understand the alcohol & drugs bit but the sex? How is doing without sex going to help detox?

Remember there are juniors on this forum if you do decide to explain.:D

I've gone without alcohol for long periods of time. I can't really say that I felt better, apart from not having hangovers which was quite nice. However, I found that my tolerance level to alcohol goes way down and I get wasted on just a few drinks when I next have an alcoholic drink! So watch out for that!

I did the "cabbage soup" detox for a week in my 3rd year at uni. It goes something like: You can only drink water.
Cabbage soup is allowed any day of the week.
Apart from that, you can only eat:

Day 1: Only fruit (but no bananas)
Day 2: Only salad and vegetables (but no pototoes)
Day 3: Only fruit & salad (but no bananas or pototoes)
Day 4: Skimmed milk and bananas
Day 5: Beef and tomatoes
Day 6: Chicken and vegetables (but no pototoes)
Day 7: Brown rice and vegetables (but no pototoes)

One of my mates only lasted to Wednedsay and went for a Big Mac. Another of my mates lasted until Day 6 but hadn't eaten anything all week (as she didn't fancy the choices) so felt very ill!

However, I felt great afterwards! I was getting up at 7am (wide awake) and felt full of life all the time. I lost a couple of notches on my belt too! (Don't know how much weight as we didn't have scales.)

I have contemplated going on a detox many a time. Even slightly attempted it one two occasions lasting a few days. These were aided detox, by drinking a certain amount of rancid liquid - concentrate purchaseable from your local health food shop - for a certain amount of days whilst limiting the amount of stimulants and 'bad' food in your diet to a minimum.

Did anyone watch the celebrity detox on TV a while ago. For those that didn't it involved, Richard Blackwood, the Irish guy from Corrination street (or ex boyzone member) Sara Palmer Tomkinson and Kym Wilde.
Their mission was to spend one week on a tropical island retreat and completeing a detox. This involved them giving up food and drinking large amounts of water with only one, specially made nutrient rich milkshake thing for their breakfast and performing enemas themselves at least 2 times a day (I think maybe more). These enemas were diluted coffee!!
The cameras filmed everything other than insertion!!

I would like to go on somekind of detox but reckon they would have to lock me in a box for a week for me to be able to complete it.

I'd love to go on a dettox but the fear of insomnia scares me. That cabbage diet thingy looks interesting though, but I don't like cabbage.

get a quality juicer, champion juicer is the best. if you want to detox just drink plenty of water and just eat brown rice. On first day don't eat anything at all, just drink water, then do the rice thing for the rest of the week. Thats my advise for what it's worth.
some good detox stuff from
http://www.specialist-herbal.com/
good herbs etc, do not buy stuff from holland and barrat as most if there stuff is not the best quality shall we say. (again, just my opinion (and a few others!))
juice raw beetroot, but watch it cos it can be quite potent, dilute with apple and carrot is always good. also Parsley is good for a detox but again is quite potent and not to be taken on it's own. you also need a good juicer to process it.

You need to go without alcohol for about 6 months to get a super high, your body feels so good that it isnt being poisoned by alcohol. You will probably also notice that you can see clearer, its hard to explain but its like looking outside through a glass window then opening the window and looking, its alot clearer.

You may also sweat really bad in your sleep and another thing you may get flash-backs to crappy times in your life, but don't let these things put you off its truly an amazing experience.

Highly recommended! who needs chemical-dependency anyhow.

I was thinking that maybe a week of no alcohol, drugs or sex wouldn't really be enough to notice any benefits/difference. Have you made a start Wilf?

And on the no sex part... Sex helps release endorphins, our natural feel good hormone, so why not keep that up?! (Er, no pun intended).

I'm off alcohol for the time-being, but not sure I could ever go on a full dettox, I'd miss McDonalds too much.

Mine wasn't really a detox thing, but for a week up until the day I didn't have any alcohol, caffeine or processed foods (I dont have many of them now anyway) and did a 36 hour water fast with 2 drinks of juice in between.

Effects it had on me:

1. Energy...Surprisingly, had bundles of it the next morning, probably due to...
2. Sleep...Slept like a baby, fell asleep before midnight which is some acheivement for me...Woke up at around 8:30am feeling absolutely grand.
3. Cosmetics..Forehead had quite a few impurities on em, after a trip to gym, an intense 1 hours running on treadmill followed by steam room and sauna, I was fine.
4. State of mind... Like someone above mentioned, felt absolutely great! Clear thoughts and felt I struck the right balance.

I live quite a healthy lifestyle - Eat balanced, Vitamin & Mineral supplements, plenty of water ONLY, no processed foods, sugary drinks and workout at least 3-4 x a week and since then I have been a bit stricter on my 'chemical' intake in particular caffeine and alcohol.

If you wanna go for it, then good luck and give your digestive system a break and let it cleanse itself and you will feel great afterwards.

My detox ends today... I havent been out drinking since Greece (I got back June 16th!) and have just had the odd glass of wine  I don't take drugs and sex is something I'd never detox from... Good lord no! :hihi:

As I have something to celebrate (passing 1st year exams and having 2 jobs and something to do all summer) I'm going to have a crazy time tonight and probably start the detox again tomorrow :hihi:

I had three years without alcohol a few years back and as others have mentioned, did have a rather pleasant clarity of vision and thought - it was a little bit like being a child again and seeing the world through fresh eyes.

On this note, I've often wondered why people are so driven to the bad things in life. I for one am no saint. But, be it alcohol, fatty (tasty) foods, ciggies etc - (need I go on), why, as human beings do we always push the limits and opt for the naughties over the goodies? Its a strange human concept which I'd have thought we would have refind as part of our evolution - but no, we still opt for the naughties over the life-giving greener options, hence the apparent need to detox now and again. Surely its more about 'lifestyle' changes as opposed to the occasional detox week?

I once gave up alcohol, drugs and sex - it was the longest ten minutes of my life......
