Virgin have been over-selling bandwidth in many of their areas, especially the 50mb service, which isn't traffic managed. I had major problems earlier this year, with my internet being virtually unusable.

Upgrades are planned, but getting any info or resolution out of the issue is very difficult. I had to complain via the industry watchdog to get it sorted.

Yes that's not a good thing although it does take them about 2 weeks. Once you have the 50MB gear in and any contract done you can move to any speed when you like including the future as these boxes do up to 200mbps apparently.

I moved to 50MB for a few reasons. One was that on 10MB I found that I was watching 2 X films on Sky player and then I was hitting the limit. The extra upload helps for VPN and other things too

i think thats why i want to go to 50mb i want to be able to play xbox nicley and stuff like that and the extra upload will benefit this! although at this rate it may not even inprove if i get 50mb the guy i spoek to the other day said that 100mb may be avliable by the endf of this year for normal home customers lol! i wonder how much they will charge for that???

Romour is between £60-£70. But what's the point in 100mbps when the law jsut changed.

Seems silly to me..

they are scrapping the lower packages and offering 10, 20, 50 and 100 mb, 10,20 and 50 will be at a slightly reduced price and the 100mb will be around £50

they are also concentrating on altering the upload this year giving 1/10th of the download speed so..

10mb = 1mb
20mb = 2mb
50mb = 5mb
100mb = 10mb

can't wait for that, but the 50mb will be put on the traffic management, while the 100mb won't be (currently the 50mb isn't)

Only a month, sounds like the same guff I got the last time I was in an oversubscribed area. It actually lasted 8 months, and Virgin lied through their teeth at each and every oportunity in regard to it.

If they admit that your service is poor then demand a refund or at least a reduction on what you are paying for it.

This was the only way I got results.

Indeed I did, but it can be rather frustrating trying to get money out of them ;)

Exactly the same here, before the ISPA got on the case Virgin simply didn't want to know.

With the ISPA's help I got a significant refund and a reduced rate for a year, but it still didn't get my broadband fixed.

It got so bad a couple of times I had to resort to digging out my old dial up modem! A blast from the past that wasn't a pleasant experience.

I was tempted to go with Be and see what their service was like but trying to contact BT and get a line installed proved to be impossible, so I just put up with it in the end.
