the first HD ready sets only ever had component input, and VGA (Dsub, like a Computer) because all HD ready means is that it supports 720p input resolution, so is probably 1280x720 (or possibly 1366x768 )

so you would be looking at using the component input (3 sockets, red, green and blue)

HD ready doesnt really have anything to do with a HDMI slot, it refers to the resolution of the screen. There are other ways of connecting a HD source to the TV (though HDMI is the most common these days)

if it says hd ready and theres not an HDMI input maybe its just an upscale i think its called where you have 3 different colourd plugs like those 3 on the xbox360 cable to make it hd

EDIT: someones already answered for you.

The one you have your Wii plugged in to will probably have nothing to do with HD.
If it is the red, white and yellow sockets then it is "composite video" with audio and you should just leave your Wii plugged into that. If the sockets are red, blue and green then that is a "component video" input and is where you will be able to plug in a HD source. (its unlikely you would have your Wii plugged into this one because it would require you to purchase a special cable for it, which would mean you would already know what its for).
In this picture, the top row is composite video with audio and the bottom row is component.

If it doesn't have component video, does it have DVI? DVI looks like this (white socket on the right)

You can get HDMI to DVI adaptors which will fix this problem for you.

What model is it? If you can post the model number then I should be able to check the specs and see if it is truly HD ready.
Also, does it actually say the words "HD ready" on it, or does it just say something like "HD compatible"? When HDTVs very first came out, a lot of TVs were released that claimed to be "HD compatible". This means they would accept an HD signal but only display it in standard definition resolution. It was a cheap trick to rip off people who didn't really know what they were buying. Hopefully thats not whats happened to you.
Its worth noting that for a TV to be labelled "HD Ready" or "Full HD" it has to meet a set of standard regulations agreed by all the TV manufacturers which state that it should have at least a HDMI or DVI input.

Hope this helps :)

If there is a component output on your Blu-ray player then it should work fine. Make sure you get a red & white stereo phono lead for the audio too!
One thing to be aware of is that you will not be able to get full 1080p through component video, only 720p. But seeing as you HDTV is "HD Ready" (720p) as opposed to "Full HD" (1080p) that shouldn't be a problem :)

It says on the tv 1080i. I have seen on eBay a lead that has a hdmi at one end and componant at the other, this should be ok?

Yes, that will be fine.

1080i & 720p are essentially the same thing. 1080p is a step up.

This advice is wrong. The part about 1080i and 720p is wrong because there is a big difference between an interlaced image (1080i) and a progressive image (720p). An interlaced image will show alternating lines on the screen (giving a slightly flickery image) and a progressive image will display all lines at once. Set your Blu-ray player to output 720p to ensure a smoother image.
The lead you have seen will probably not do the job. HDMI is a digital signal and component is an analogue signal. I simple cable with HDMI at one end and component at the other won't be capable of converting a digital signal to analogue.
Your best bet is to just use a good quality component cable.

I use this one and it should do the job fine.

Bit annoyed actually cos I paid £20 for mine about 3 years ago and now its on Amazon for under £4!

Its not wrong - I said they're essentially the same, not exactly. There certainly isn't a big difference (to most peoples eyes).

99.9% of HD Ready TV's do 720p & 1080i - this is what I meant.

You're right about the cable though - I didn't think that through! Sorry

Hi I got this -

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemVersion&item=380221060484&view=all&tid=167241078025

so this will not work as i thought it would plug into the blueray player and then the componant cables to the back of the tv

The link you provided doesn't seem to be working. Was it something like this
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1080p-Gold-HDMI-to-5-RCA-Audio-Video-AV-Component-Cable_W0QQitemZ370367634936QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_C omputing_CablesConnectors_RL?hash=item563ba19df8

If it was then no, it will not work. Blu-ray players only output a digital signal via HDMI and that cable will only work with something that can output an analogue signal via HDMI.

Yes, the component cable will be fine. You will also need an audio cable like this
http://www.amazon.co.uk/1-5M-BLACK-AUDIO-PHONO-CABLE/dp/B0033R59IA/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&s=garden&qid=1271712447&sr=8-6
assuming there is red and white audio inputs on your TV near the component video inputs?
