Can anyone recommend a good reseller hosting company with UK based servers?

We're sick to the back teeth of Hosting Zoom - uptime seems to be currently about 75%

We just need something reliable

Thanks

Thanks for that - I've not seen them before. Do you know if they use cPanel?

as far as i'm aware they do use cPanel, but I think they also have thier own thing too... if they don't have cPanel you can install it yourself, though webmin is much better imho ;)

I have always used them for Personal or dedicated instead of hosted packages so wouldn't know 100% though, best to maybe contact thier online support etc...

**edit** just looked around and it seems its thier own thing... demo @ https://www.ovh.co.uk/managerv3/home.pl?csid=0

I'd recommend www.redfoxhosting.co.uk

Transfer far too low on that one!

For example, one e-commerce shop I currently host uses 40GB p/m bandwidth.

You might be as well getting a VPS or basic dedicated and setting it all up yourself... you can get them cheap enough now, ovh, leaseweb, uk2.net, 1and1, there's loads out there (all of the above I have used and never had any issues)

I use Ariotek (https://ariotek.co.uk/affiliates/idevaffiliate.php?id=139) (used to be Fuzioned) who I cant reccomend enough.

Technically sound, but really good customer service too - they really do go out of their way to help you with any requests. I've been with them years and never noticed any downtime on any of my servers.

Looks good, but does seem a bit pricey for what they offer... :/

I thought the prices are pretty good really, especially when you consider the importance of reliability / availability - and the fact they bend over backwards to help (rare these days!)

This thread is talking about reseller hosting - sounds like you just need hosting. The choices are vast - you need to think about what is important to you as you can get free hosting, virtually free hosting, reasonably priced to bloody expensive - they all offer different things in terms of features, reliability, customer service etc etc.

hi floyd

right well, i just want to be able to sell my stuff online. what would you say i need to be able to do that? and who should i go with?

I'd say you should go with me! I can set you up with a good e-commerce package.

Basically you want something reliable, can host the software you will be using and gives you confidence. Some hosting companies will install shopping cart software for you, or will include various options for you to do a one click install - some will expect you to do it yourself, some just plain wont allow you to.

If you list your requirements I can give you a quote - and some alternatives.

Don't be swayed by huge numbers or claims of unlimited etc. If you're not going to use 200gb of transfer for example then you might as well go with a company that gives you less but isn't overselling their services (I.e. Hoping you don't use it all as they'd make a loss on your account). Far better to buy what you need wi some room to grow with a decent provider rather than try and buy the moon on a stick when you don't really need it. :)

though webmin is much better imho ;)

webmin/usermin/virtualmin are pretty crap in a commercial environment/server.

They're rubbish (I used them when they first started). Run by the people who started 123reg.

Why has this old thread been bumped?

Because people have answers to the questions?

Because we're told to use the search facility before posting?

Cpanel FTW!

I've used both plesk and cpanel in the past. Life is a *lot* smoother just setting up virtualhosts yourself ;)

Yeah - control panels are ok, but if you know what you're doing they just take so much longer to do basic tasks.

True. I been learning how to do that yesturday. Added a shoutcast reseller control panel called castcontrol. It was fun. Just installed PHP to my centos 5.5 box and linked the DB to my cpanel (viper) server.

With such poor English language skills, I wouldn't trust them to host a P up in a brewery, let alone my domains.:|

I used UK2.net, and they do use cpanel. They are very reasonably priced and have been very reliable.
