I'm not going to put up a poll as there are too many choices widely available for selection.

So which do you think is the horror film, that has made you nearly crap your pants in fear- if there is one?

I'm looking towards building up my horror DVD collection and I'm looking for the best ones to add to it.

Thanks

Hopefully Raimi wont screw up Evil Dead 4, or the planned remake of Evil Dead.

The Evil Dead was so scary when I first saw it (around the time of its release (mid 80's?)) but I saw it again recently and laughed mostly. The Ring and Saw are both good, also Creep. Went to see The Devil's Rejects last night, not particularly scary, but very very violent.

When I was about 12 I went to a mates house because there was no school - due to a teacher training day or something . . . We found 'An American Werewolf in London' in his dads room and put it on.

We had the curtains shut and never said a word through it!!! It was so ^%$&("£"!£$ frightening . . . from the first scene on the moors to the subway station in London!! Great film.

Also, I must mention another great horror film I saw when I was young. . . . I know what you're going to say . . . 'DID YOU HAVE ANY PARENT'S!'.

It was called 'Salems Lot' and scared me stiff for years! The best horror films all came out during the late 70's - early 80's. This was the time for great horrors, not the rubbish we see nowadays like 'Scream' and 'I know what you did last summer' or even 'Jeepers Creepers' which started off with a scene that was copied from Spielbergs classic 'Duel'.

Pretty much anything to be honest! I am easily scared out of my mind it seems and watching a horror film usually means nightmares for days. :suspect:

Its ''Candyman'' all the way for me folks...... the original one not no2, as that is crap. I can still now only get up to where she realises she is in the tenniment block and climbs through the gap in her bathroom.

That guys voice freeks me out everytime I see him ..... even when he was in 'Final Destination' ... spooky

I think it is all in the suspense and not the gore ..... although that is great too.

Unfortunately I dont scare easily, (only time I did is when I looked in the mirror) (thought I would get that in before anyone else did)

so I have yet to find a film that has made me scared.

I love horror films and seen that many as well.

They've done the sequel - Exorcist the beginning but it's no way as sacry as the first. ;)

I remember going to see The Exorist front row at Rotherham cinema 1983 when I was 16. I had my jacket over my head & fingers in ears. Watched it again 2003 and couldnt understand why I was scared of pea soup & silly voices.
My husband had a nightmare after watching The Grudge last week. My daughter watched it and fell about laughing.

Hell Raiser & the 2nd Hannable Lecter films are two films that I would not like to sit threw again.

The only scene that ever freaked me out was in Cape Fear, where Robert De Niro bit a chunk out of a womans cheek then spat it out :gag: Took me weeks to get that image out of my head *shudder

Tremors
Razorback
My Bloody Valentine
Night of the Hunter
The Dead Zone
The Wicker Man
Scanners (only one good scene but worth it)

Hokie but good!

The biggest horror of all time.........

The Sound of Music :suspect:

For origionality I would have to say the Blair Witch Project was one of the scariest films I have ever seen. I remember watching it in my hotel room in Florida before it was released over here. I was totally sucked into the whole nightmare they were living - Top class stuff!

I'm really getting into Asia Extreme stuff like The Eye, Phone, Ring Trilogy, Audition, Tale of Two Sisters, The Grudge, etc. If you don't mind having to read subtitles then there's some twisted stuff going on.

I really can't watch horror films that are set round a house for some reason, they really get to me.

I've just got hold of Cannibal Holocaust the directors cut after watching the perfect scary movie on CH4 the other night- anyone seen this film?

It has been banned for ages, but I dont see what all the fuss was about really.

There is 2 bits that could disturb I admit- the main one being where the pregnant woman had a novel approach to abortion- lets put it that way- other than that, I found it pretty tame.

Nowadays it not meant to scare you, its just cheese like a lot of films from 20/30 years ago. Really scary then but tame now.

I did enjoy it when i first watched it. Prefer it to Blair Witch which is really just a copy

The Grudge was quite good, and Darkness Falls, but films don't realy scare me any more, it's more they make me jump or go "Eeeeeugghh".

I also liked The Fog, Hellraiser, IT, Alien, The Thing (both versions), Invasion Of The Body Snatchers.

I think the best films of any kind are the ones which can leave you with am emotion of their choosing, not of yours.

In the case of horror films, it's not the ones which suddenly make you jump which are the best. It's more the ones which make you too scared to go out of the movie theatre and walk back to your car.

Candyman is one of the best horror films ever. Do you know anyone who dare say it? I don't!

The Blair Witch Project is also quite clever. Particularly good if you happen to be watching it on a dark night in Maryland though!

So what's the WORST horror film ever? Well, for my money The Exorcist has to be a contender. Lots of hype about nothing. I sat alone in a matinee performance. Just me in a 800 seat cinema when it was re-released a few years ago and I have to say it was about as scary as Play School:P

i thought the grudge was laughable, i was doin the 'scary' noises for weeks after, where he sounds like hes choking...

just seen saw 2 and i cried the whole way thru, totally traumatising, how disturbing must these movie writers be to think of deaths like that! sick!

all the chuckie films freak me out, ive had nightmares bout that bloody doll since i saw it when i was a kid - bout 7 i think! and remember seeing gremlins too, god that was terrifying as a kid!

have never been able to watch all of the shining as its just too bloody weird! jack nicholson is brilliant in it!

ring and ring 2 are scary, tho i havent seen the scarier jap versions, would miss half the film if its subtitled as i'll be behind my cushion!

for worst horrors grudge is in my fianl three, along with texas chainsaw massacre the new generation and scream three :)

Nothing scares me no more in horra films since my dad told me it not real when i was younger and to listen out for the music is a good sign that something going to happen.

But i have to say when i was younger it had to be werewolf in london, and to this day it still give me the creeps.

But ive not seen a horra film for ages that is scarie till i seen white noise, now that is a bit skin tingling of a film.

The Descent, just out on DVD is an excellent British horror film, with a brilliant but simple plot, and some of the best "jumps" in years.

I saw it twice at the cinema, the second time with a full house, and actually felt the place shake at some of these moments. Even better when you know whats coming and can enjoy everyone else's reactions! One woman threw popcorn all over my wife at the best shock moment. Classic.

Others, well, I'd agree with Saw, most Asian horror movies, the original Evil Dead, Poltergeist, the original The Haunting, Alien, the first Nightmare on Elm Street (before Freddy became a comedy hero), and loads more I can't think of at the moment.

Wolf Creek is pretty disturbing too, in that "Well it could happen- couldn't it?" sort of way.

I remember The Shuttered Room... aint seen that for years!

I think Grudge, Hide and Seek, and both Saw films are all very good recent horror films. Saw 2 is a rare example of a very good sequel... possibly better than the original.

I think that The Shinning is one of the best horror films ever made. However, I regret that I could not see it on the big screen (because I was a kid). I rented the movie later and saw it on a 13in TV, but I didn't find it that scary then, of course . However, I bet that on widescreen, and at that time, it should have been really scary.
I remember that my mum allowed me to see "The exorcist" when I was a kid and I couldn't sleep for two days!!! I also remember being scared with "Jaws" when I was like 6. :loopy:
