View Full Version : Sheffield's BT Phone Book
I have just read an interesting letter in the Star concerning something I've always been curious about but never bothered enough to do or say anything. A man from Ecclesall couldn't find the number of Sainsburys in his phone book and noticed his book said "Sheffield North and Central", when in fact Ecclesall is in the South West of Sheffield. After eventually getting his point through to BT, they sent him the right one, free of charge. My phone book is also for "Sheffield North and Central" and I too live in Ecclesall. Where exactly qualifies for the correct book, or did BT do this deliberately as his letter suggests, to try to make people use directory enquiries? Which area of Sheffield (as in North, West, South-West, etc) do you live in and is your phone book the right one for your area?
By "phone" standards, surely its central?
the south Sheffield one covers central and further out down south to places like Dronfield and Eckington. They just supply the book you are most likely to use
They usually give them you free anyway if you ask nicely and can argue you live in central as the bloke in the star did.
There's a tiny map at the front which shows the border twixt the two. It's somewhere along Eccy Road by the look of it.

Surely the South & Central is more applicable to areas in the South West of Sheffield than the North & Central edition?

From looking at the (not very detailed) map, I'd say Ecclesall definitely qualifies for South and Central though.
If you phone up BT can get all three for your STD code which is 0114.

How very constructive, but:
a) Why would you want to? It can be a useful resource for finding numbers of restaurants, builders, plumbers, etc etc.
b) I hope you mean a recycling bin? Afterall, you wouldn't want to waste so much paper would you?

It was supposed to be a joke, you know, sarcasm is the lowest form of wit and all that.
Maybe too suttle, eh lad.
Anyway, YP don't seem to bother about the amount of paper they use, good job sheffield can find a use for it even it does go up the chimney at Berners Road (or does it?????).
I think they have problems recycling yellow pages because of the yellow dye.

Don't mention the Bernard Rd incinerator - you may just trigger off a rant by Abdul about it.
Also, sarcasm and any irony is hard to detect over forums and chat rooms - a lesson I have learned the hard way...
tell me more about this incinerator someone! That blue bin of ours is so flimsy it's only 8 months old an already it's looking shabby :S I'll be annoyed if it doesn't actually get recycled after lugging it halfway down the road..
