View Full Version : The most beautiful place in sheffield
What do you think is the most beautiful place in sheffield? Maybe a park that you love or gardens. Or maybe a a pub thats in the coutryside .
It may help me to choose a place to get married. :P
the_rudeboy 28-08-2005, 16:43 I was going get married at the Botanical Gardens......til she dumped me.
Get some great piccies there.
Oh my gosh. I want to get married there but i was looking on their website and it said nothing about weddings so I assumed that you couldn't. Where can I get more info about this and where abouts were you going to get married in the gardens.
Ps. She obviously didn't know how lucky she was! ;)

I originally got info from the Register Office about places that had licences to carry out marriages. And then e-mailed the Botanical Gardens.....there is a contact but cant remember who it is. Not exactly sure where the ceremony takes place......fortunately we hadn't progressed details that far!!!
And thanks very much for the PS......despite not knowing me!
What is their email address because I cant find it on their website?

You've got me wondering now..... maybe the info was in the stuff i got sent by the Register Office.
Get in touch with the Register Office first cos they'll give you info about places licenced to carry out weddings.
Draggletail 28-08-2005, 17:46 A lot of people used to get married at the 'eggbox' (registry office) and then go have the photos taken in the botanical gardens.
Second best option, I guess :)
Thankyou everyone.
Dont suppose you know but in the botanical gardens in S10 area what is the pub that is in the corner called? it was near the glass building, we didn't go over but it looked very nice.
Please help!:help:
Draggletail 28-08-2005, 18:24 Nearest pub I can think of is the 'Aunt Sally' - a 'chain' pub, a few yards away on Clarkehouse Rd. Not in the corner near the glass houses, though
Unless they snuck a pub in while I wasn't looking :)
Oh - Mrs draggle tells me there is a restaurant in the corner by the glass house
Draggletail 28-08-2005, 18:30 In fact this may be it:
Curator's House Restaurant 0114 268 7788.

Sorted :)

Only for a 'cake and a cup of tea' in the afternoon, Angel. Don't know what the evening meals are like, though I hear it gets booked up......
Mrs D had the 'cake' Draggles don't eat cake :suspect:
Aww fanks.
I just thought it would be good to get married in the gardens then go back there for a meal and drinks before reception.
Thanks for your help:thumbsup:
The most beautiful view in Sheffield is looking out from the top end of Psalter Lane across the valley and tress on the facing hill at night with all the lights on. Dont think that's really what you had in mind and doubt whether you'd get a license. It is just across the road from a really fancy restaurant which is well recommended on the Forum. Cant say for myself because never eaten there.
One of my favourite places in the world (and I've been lots of places) is the little path along Rivelin valley by the side of the stream, under the trees. A feeling of peace, punctuated by dog walkers and the lovely tinkle of the water- it takes the stress away just thinking of it! It's lovely rain or shine, warm or cold.
Another (although not strictly in Sheffield) is the view from sitting on the grass where the Mam Tor road dropped off the hill. Many an afternoon spent sitting there listening to the wind, and the sheep. Not so good in the rain (you freeze your bits off out there!) or when there are tourists about, but lovely when you have it to yourself.
I've seen many more beautiful and striking places, but these are favourites because they give me a daily slice of peace. I could visit them every day if I wanted to (I really like Victoria Falls and Lake Louise, but I couldn't nip out after tea for a bit of peace when I wanted to!)
Draggletail 28-08-2005, 18:42 You're welcome Angel. Didja get the link?

I put it in after as an edit.
Good luck!!
I did thankyou.

I'll go with those too
The best place in sheffield is easily my back garden jkjk LOL nah i think it is graves park its wonderful
Angel01 - The Botanical Gardens are fully booked for weddings until April 2007 apparently :o But if you can wait, they do 'em in the glasshouses, 'cause you can't get married in anything other than a 'permanent, licenced structure' or something like that.
My most beautiful place would have to be...and this is strange...the road coming down from Park Hill to Granville Road, at twilight in the winter. The lights are wonderful, better than Blackpool. ;)
WallBuilder 29-08-2005, 00:33 A couple of months ago I walked out through Endcliffe park and out past Forge dam. I then climbed almost to the top of the valley and at one point found myself sitting on a bench looking back down the valley and really enjoying the silence and tranquility. I'd recommend it!!.
pete_fcs 29-08-2005, 01:41 graves park cafe's nice, overlooking rolling hills, and you can gerracuppatea!:)
Whirlow Park is nicely tucked away and I believe they cater for weddings.....etc....It's always peaceful in there .
I would imagine the Dore bus goes past it but if you're walking or ina car-------as you go on Ecclesall Rd. South you pass where it's joined by Whirlowdale Rd. and on your right you can see where the old road used to go . Walk down to near where the road re-joins Ecclesall Rd. Sth.you see the entrance on your right.
I suppose the reason it doesn't get crowded is that hardly anybody can find it ?
Beautiful views from the top of the park where the restaurant is and a very tranquil atmosphere

We went there for some photos when i got married.........just the photographer , me & my now ex-wife.......very romantic......at the time.
lovabulrogue 29-08-2005, 09:03 One of my favourite places in Sheffield is the 2nd tier of the Bole Hills (where the park and bowling greens are) from here you can sit and see Lodge Moor to your left all the way across to Shirecliffe on your right, and everything inbetween (just about) as a kid it amazed me and still does. Even at night !
Not a suitable wedding venue though.

Top choice that Fareast. A better venue than Botanical Gardens, in fact
Endclife Park, the view from Pslater Lane across to Greystones/Broomhill etc. I also like Ringinglow Road, up to the Norfolk Arms looking back over the city.

I like Riverlin too, but I prefer it further up stream, nearer to the Post Office where it is a bit more rugged and natural and there are more waterfalls.
The view from the Riverlin Hotel is realy good too, and walk back into town along Long Lane (I think) with the cottages and Rosco Bank, a very good place for blackberrying.

I agree with both. The view at night from Ringinlow road is beautiful as the city sparkles below.
I love Endcliffe park, I've always thought that it seems enchanted. Everyone seems to be happy and relaxed there. Always a lovely atmosphere.

The most beautifull place to have your Wedding reception in Sheffield is : Whirlow Park : second to none.
sugarnspice 05-10-2005, 13:15 I love the Botanical Gardens (used to go as a kid all the time and it has many memories).
I love Whirlow Park too and there's a lovely little bit by a pond with a bench, it's lovely.
