hey ive got an iphone 3g 8gb had it a while now getting bored of it. ive seen a lot of new phones out there and i like the look of the htc legend but the question is. is it worth getting this or holding out till june/july for the new iphone. would like to know if anybody else is thinking the same ta.

there is no definate release date for the new iphone or indeed if it will be launched in the uk. i work for a well known high street retailer and little to no information has been handed out. If it is released it will be extremely expensive and i dare say chargable on all tariffs. the htc range have had a few mishaps but seem to be good handsets.

You should ask yourself why you are getting bored of the iPhone, no other mobile out there has the features or usability of the iPhone, or as many 'apps' maybe look into finding some new apps or something to fix your boredom etc

the iphone 4g is coming out in june/july not s set date as of yet but its defo coming... i was advised in shop after i was going to get 3gs

I miss the bluetooth the iphone cam is crap most of the aps i dont use even though ita jailbroken.

If you have a 3Gs and the camera is crap, then your not using the camera properly... and if you want decent pictures, buy a proper camera, no phone gives as good images as a real camera..

and if you don't use the apps, get different ones, better ones, other ones...

as for bluetooth, that's coming... patience my friend, patience..

i have the 3g not the 3gs. and as for the bluetooth i dont think that will ever come to the iphone even the ones on a jailbroken phone dont work.

if by features you mean things like camera.. then the argument stands... a phone isn't a "camera" it's a phone with a camera on it, it doesnt have to be great, and they were only ever designed for a quick snap, not a serious picture... get a proper camera for such...

True. Its not really a phone, its a gadget.

Things I believe I';d miss if I went iPhone:

- Bluetooth files to another device (tried with mp3, not permitted. Can only assume because it might damage iTunes sales rather than a technical limitation)
- Multitasking (yes, I do use it)
- FM radio receiver and transmitter (mp3s in car)
- Use an mp3 as a ringtone/message alert (tried it, failed)
- I quite like having a (half decent) camera in my phone (nice being able to blog from phone with photos/upload direct to flickr)
- I don't want to be locked in to iTunes/Apple software (I doubt it would run under Linux anyway ;) )

Does iPhone allow you to connect it in Mass storage mode or always media player mode?

My 2 year old Nokia does everything (bar the compass thing) the 3GS does and does it better as well as including all the features listed above and not forced to use Apple software if don't want to.

1000s of apps available? As there are on Symbian/Android. Certainly I've been able to find apps out there for my needs without needing to have an iPhone.

Granted the Nokias do have bugs thht iDevices seem to suffer from less but that's a compromise I'll live with for the extra/better features :D

I'm not trying to do down the iPhone, it's a nice device, but it is certainly not the most advanced device out there. That is the sentiment I have issue with. What is does, it does well but it isn't the most advanced phone.

Think I'll try an Android phone next.

Coming won't help me now. Devices that have been out for years have been doing this stuff already, iPhone is behind the times.

I never said it was the most advanced, but it can do all those you listed (other than FM transmitter, which is rumoured to support but just no software support yet)

i work for an independant that sells the iphone for all networks and can categorically say that there is no release date nor is there a definate answer that it will be released in the uk at an affordable price, apple call the shots not the networks or the dealers.

the legend and the hero are both very good handsets, they aim for the side of the market that dont want apple, you either love or hate apple. one other to consider would be the S/E x10, also a great handset.
