Does anybody know what's happened in Woodhouse Village? There are loads of police vehicles, and one of those white tents they use, which suggests there's a body? A friend of mine was out drinking there last night and heard that someone had seen a body.

In the market square. At around 11.20ish.

If you heard/saw anything unusual, don't post it here (for obvious reasons), call the police.

Just so people don't panic every time they see a white tent, it doesn't necessarily mean a body is present. It also doesn't mean that something is so awful it is being screened from the public. Another purpose of the tents is purely to 'preserve' a scene and prevent it being contaminated or disturbed by the elements.

I've heard a gang of lads beat someone up, someone came to help him and was stabbed to death. The guy being beaten up is now critically ill.

That's the info that's been coming into the shop next to the square - some of it, anyway.

The tent was there to protect the scene whilst the police photographer arrived this afternoon.

Mod: Just to echo what Strix said earlier, please don't post anything on here that could prejudice any police inquiry. Thanks.

There will probably be news here (http://www.southyorks.police.uk/news/) eventually

There is an incident room, so there is probably truth in the rumours :(

They were never rumours I've spoken to a handful of witnesses.

I'm not sure it was a good idea to put the guy's road on here though. Or is it just me being over cautious?

it is in the star tonight. People fighting outside pub late at night aparently the man who died was not involved in the fight but in the area.

The trouble in Market Square on Staurday night wasn't a murder according to "The Star". A 46 year old bloke witnessed a brawl outside one of the pubs in the Square and collapsed. He was taken to Hospital where he died.

The Police want any witnesses to the brawl or the mans collapse to contact them on 0114-26963438.

It is surprising how rumours generate false information.

He was seen in a pool of blood, apparently. You may be right, of course, but I heard this from more than one witnesses, not from a friend of a friend of a bloke who heard it on the bus. Also, I'd take anything the Star prints with a dose of Sodium Chloride.       (See how many I did there? I must be right). :D

You could be right. On the other hand he could have hit his head on the floor as he fell. An ambulace went hell for leather towards Coisley Hill with two police cars following at around that time so someone was in need of hospital treatment. If he just collapsed then why did the police need a security tent to protect the scene?

Until something is said by the police any comment is pure speculation. .

According to the lunchtime news the deceased had a cronic heart condition, and died as a result of that.
