View Full Version : West Point - Trippet Lane - what's the area like?
Hi, I'm thinking of moving to one of these fairly new(ish) apartments on Trippet lane. I preferred this side of West Street to the WestOne and Devonshire side as it's less busy and less painfully *trendy*. Does anyone know what it's like in these flats and if there are any problems with the area? Thanks :)
There have been a few bad press reports about West Point, mainly noise and quality of fittings etc.
I went to view 4 apartments at west point before I bought a place at the Riverside Exchange.
They are small for the money and parking is a BIG problem (unless you are lucky to have one of the dedicated undercroft parking spots but these had all gone when I viewed them in last summer.)
But from what I saw inside, they looked ok, with space being the only problem.
That's often the trouble with buying from national housing developers - they just don't care about anything but the profit margin for the absebtee shareholders, but they pay for good PR to tell customers how much they care (in spite of the evidence).
That's the difference with West One, the developer is smaller and local and they have tried hard to make them good despite the builders efforts to the contrary.
Thanks for your thoughts - luckily the one we're looking at does have a parking space, something that's essential for me. I'm not too bothered about space, it was really the safety in the area and crime that I was concerned about. Riverside Exchange is another possibility, but a little too far out. WestOne looks nice, but rather expensive for what you get! Thanks again, any more comments are greatly appreciated :)

I heard that it was the West One development flats that had this design fault, and it was in the paper too.
What design faults exactly? I had heard that the furnishing and fittings in the West One flats are only designed to withstand 15 years of usage - but I don't plan to still be in it for that long!
DaBouncer 14-01-2004, 19:48 Just that the floor boards aren't sound proofed properly, so noise travells easier. That sorta stuff!
Ah, I see. Well the Trippet lane side seems quieter than those on West street, which is a bonus. cheers! :)
Hi,
Were thinking of moving to the apartments at west point behind west street. Can anyone give me info about the flats and living specifically here? Is there any reason why the flats seam to be cheaper and dont sell as quickly as others like west one?
Also somewhere on this forum someone talked briefly about a noise problem, is this neighbours or street noise?
Any info much appreciated.
Street noise; one of my colleagues lives there and I too went to look at several apartments there.
Also check the parking situation.
The ones round the back are better (less tram rumble)
Hi, we're in the process of buying one, thankfully it has a parking space, I have seen one on the market though with Saxton Mee although this is without a car space. Info here:

We went for the Trippet Lane side as it's less busy than West street and less "trendy" too. Are you looking to buy or rent? The original spec of the flats is here: http://www.bellway.co.uk/yorks/WestPoint/westpoint.htm
Hope that helps!
biggest issue is parking possibly prostitutes as well as they linger round mappin street and can come down that far
cleanfix 24-02-2004, 21:11 heard loads of bad reports about tripet lane try riverside exchange flats are better built larger and areais much quieter despite being 2 mins walk from centre.

What sort of stuff? Yeah I know it's close to the prostitute area but there's always a few cop cars about I suppose! Any more comments greatly appreciated :)
Don't worry to much, the bad reports can apply to any of the city living flats. The location of Trippet lane is great and you should be fine.
shelly19 02-08-2007, 12:37 hi, is it possible to find out who the landlord of the building is? who would one contact regarding renting an apartment in west point?
The management company is The McDonald Partnership. Their office is on Eccleshall road towards the end of the shops near the VW garage. All appartments are privately owned but rentals do come up quite regularly.
Be very careful with security if you do decide to move to West Point. We lived there for just over a year last year and lived in one of the flats which was on the Trippet Lane side of the building, but the entrance was right on West Street. When we moved in we were advised there was 'CCTV at the entrance area' - this didn't seem to exist when we were broken into last summer.
The flats are nice, but the security is awful. In our particular block, there was no consideration from some of the tenants for the security of the building - the front door was (and still is, as far as I can see when I've walked past since moving out) constantly left open, even after ourselves and two other flats were burgled over one weekend and a sign was put up beside the door asking people to close the door behind them and informing them of the burglaries.
One Sunday afternoon we came back and some burglars had basically walked straight into the building, walked up the stairs to our door, bashed the letterbox straight in and reached in and round and opened the door from the outside - make sure that you fit some other sort of lock to the door as they're very easy to break into (we completely took this for granted as we naively thought the building was secure).
They are a little bit noisy too - if your flat is near one of the doorways to the stairs, be prepared to hear it slamming every time someone enters or exits!
