There doesn't seem to be a way of actually removing the Recycle Bin from your desktop, but there are programs around that can hide it.

However, if you just want to stop files you want to delete going to the Recycle Bin, and be completely deleted, then right click on the icon, click on Properties, and then check the relevant box.

Sorry if that isn't of much help.

There is a way to hide it, which involves a simple bit of registry editing.

Be advised that if you tamper with the wrong registry section, you could damage your windows installation. Saying that, so long as you follow this to the letter you will have no problems.

Click Start-Run- type regedit

this opens the registry editor.

Click on the branches to the left to get to location..

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\NewStartPanel \

Inside, Make new DWORD-Value with the name "{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}" & 'Modify' Value "1" (to do this right click on the right panel and select NEW - then right click on the new entry that appears and rename it. Finally right click on it again and choose Modify)

That will just hide the Recycle bin icon,

To restore the desktop icon again, just 'Modify' the same DWORD-Value to "0"

Tweak UI (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx) will remove the recycle bin as well :)

Or click Shift-Delete, much easier.
