Has anyone recently purchased on of those tapeless mpeg4 video cameras/camcorders - palm-sized, runs off memory card. I.e. Vivitar dvr310 - costs around £90quid.

Just wondered what the quality of video was like - anygood or rubbish?

Many thanks

This (http://techdigestuk.typepad.com/tech_digest/2005/01/vivitars_budget.html) site says it's only 640x480, which isn't even VHS resolution.

The still image quality is good (6 Megapixel through interpolaton), but your link shows that it's still 640x480 for video - DVD is 720x576.

Hmmm dont know then mate- let me look in the book.

MPEG4 Recording Quality modes-

640x480 1.8mps 30FPS - High Quality
640x480 1mpbs 30FPS - Standard
320X240 500 KBPS 30FPS - Low

The bumpf from the manual reads

The camera with 3.2 mega pixel sensor can take DVD quality MPEG 4 movies, by way of using MPEG4 technology, more videos can be taken within a certain amount of memory, high quality images with up to 2976x2232 pixels can also be delivered smoothly

What does 'interpolation' mean? Is it 3mp stills or 6mp?

Cheers.

According to www.integraloem.com :

Interpolation is a mathematical method of creating missing data. An image can be increased from 100 pixels to 200 pixels through interpolation. There are many methods of interpolation, but one simple method would be to generate a new pixel by using the average of the value of the two pixels on either side of the one to be created.

Cynics would say you're not getting a true 6MP, but 3MP is not to be sneezed at and at least you have the option to interpolate.
