Hope nobody seriously injured but the road is blocked and helicopter, fire, police and ambulances present!
Looked like 2 cars involved...both very badly damaged!
Avoid the area if you can as traffic is already quite bad!
Aw bloody hell, was about to get bus into town and 293 which avoids that way stops at 3pm on Saturdays...
Will have to walk down to Totley for 97 instead..
Latest on travel news says this...

Not those dodgy traffic lights again is it? Hope everyone involved is OK.
DaBouncer 27-08-2005, 14:49 That's why the bloody helicopter is hovering near me.
Was starting to get paranoid.
Sounds like a bad accident.
Could it be to do with the councils meddling with the road systems up this neck of the woods that's contributed to that accident?
They've seriously cocked up the roads round here now.
Looks like it was a 4x4 type vehicle turning into Morrisons was thrown onto it's side by an oncoming car, that looked like a Ford but badly damaged to front end!
It has always been a very bad junction.
My prayers are with those involved and their families.
:(
bigflesh 27-08-2005, 15:38 Just been held up for 30 minutes. Meadowhead Roundabout is utter chaos with diverted traffic snarling up Bochum Parkway, Greenhill Avenue and Chesterfield Road. And thats nearly 2 hours later!
Paul2412 27-08-2005, 15:43 I've just come right past it, one car is on its side on the junction with all the windows smashed. Whoever was in that will be seriously hurt if not dead, i think thats why the've closed everything off for a while.
Has anyone seen that car? How exactly, other than travelling way too fast have the ended up in that position?
maggyirene 27-08-2005, 16:54 hii i heard the helicopter overhead as i was in the back garden .from a tv prog i saw the other day the helicoptor takes ariel photos when theres an acident it helps with sortin out what happened.hope they are ok who had the crash
The traffic lights at Morrisons junction has a very dangerous feature. If you are approaching from Woodseats, and are turning right into Morrisons, when you get a green light in the turn right lane, traffic coming down hill from Meadowhead also get a green light. So despite having a green light, you still have to stop and wait for a gap in oncoming traffic, and this is not obvious.

That is right AndyC you only are clear if the green light is on with the green arrow when the green light is on alone you are turning right on the basis the road is clear ahead!!
Same system is currently operating at Asda, also with disasterous results as well as traffic backing up onto the roundabout...hence that road is currently being re-planned!
:(
Kristian 28-08-2005, 15:49 I don't understand how people get confused at traffic lights. Since when has a green light meant you don't have to give way to traffic coming towards you when you turn right?
bigflesh 28-08-2005, 15:54 was everyone involved OK?

Dunno Bigflesh as haven't seen it in the news so hopefully that would mean a 'Yes' - well I am sure there would have been injuries just not anything too serious!
Fingers crossed eh!

You read my mind Kristian.
muddycoffee 28-08-2005, 19:17 I went past the cars all stuck in the traffic jam all the way up meadowhead yesterday on my motorbike and the car on it's side was a dark red honda CRV or whatever they are called [top heavy modern 4x4 with a spare wheel on the back door, designed for shopping and school runs] And the car, which probably caused the accident I thought was a mazda or a honda lowish saloon dark in colour and probaly 5-10 years old, but I didn't think it was a ford. This car seemingly had shot backwards in the impact or spun 360 degrees. Neither car looked as if the passenger compartment had been distorted too bad, which sounds like good news for them.
I imagine that they didn't see each other, and clipped at speed as one car turned into morrisons and the other was heading down the hill past it.
I'm sorry if my descriptions aren't totally accurate, because I find rubbernecking annoying and dangerous, and was trying to keep out of the path of the cars who were driving past and staring at the scene, the morons!

The confusion is caused because the right turn lane has seperate traffic lights to the straight ahead lane.
MuteWitness 29-08-2005, 11:39 bet the mobile speed camera will be usining the accident as an excuse to be on that road from now on, which is going to save so many more peoples lifes than sorting the junction out
It is in The Star tonight that 5 people were injured (including 1 child) although a female was airlifted to hospital none of the injuries sustained by those involved are thought to be life threatening!
Thank goodness....I hope they all make a full and speedy recovery!!
