 oh my god i am so mad about this there is a certain bank in chapletown i wont name it but starts with a y and every time i have had to go inside to deal with something i always end up wanting to chuck something at the staff heres what happend today.
went in to draw some cash out as it was more than allowed at the cash machine went in with my bank card same as month before but !
the smug git bloke behind the counter told me i needed my cheque book to draw cash out or there was a £5 charge after a few choice comments regarding customer service and chargeing to with draw my own cash i pointed out that the month before all i was asked for was something to prove who i was i also pointed out that it was him who had served me to which he said he had not (at this point i was close to explodeing)
and then in a sarcastic voice he says so what do you want to do then.
what i should have said is well mate i want to punch your lights out but i decided on leaving saying some choice comments arghhh useing the halifax in future at least there staff are helpfull:rant:

Unfortunately with the people you would rather do business with and their stupid and exorbitant charges. £30 to send me a letter bouncing a cheque that would take me £1.50 overdrawn, and because that charge took me overdrawn they charged me £30 for that too. The original cheque was only for £10 too.

On top of that, it has taken them 5 weeks (and counting) to open a bank account for my hubby so that we can separate financially. This is all about ID. The branch approved the papers, head office have sent his ID papers back 3 times over piffling new rules that they seem to make up on the spot. For example, they want to see current tax paperwork as part of the proof of identity and then send it back and ask for some less than 2 months old. Have you ever tried obtaining tax codings dated in the middle of the tax year? Might as well try and find hen's teeth!

I think that it's a bank thing rather than an individual brand of bank that's the problem.

we had the same sort of problems with the `Y` bank but the one in firth park, we transferred all our accounts to royal bank of scotland on ecclesfield common an altogether better experience, better friendlier staff and you dont have to queue anywhere near as long, the `Y` bank asked where we were going to i said ` ecclesfield` they wrote down `macclesfield` says it all.

vote with your money go to a proper bank

Gone are the days when you could walk into your bank, be recognised and have free access to your own cash without having to prove who you are.

My grandfather used to be able to walk into the Yorkshire Penny Bank on Fargate and withdraw huge sums of money without any i.d. whatsoever. But we know times and attitudes have changed.

Whilst I sympathise with you, I reckon you'd be more likely to explode if you were to receive your bank statement showing an unauthorised withdrawal to the tune of £500. Upon enquiring as to why this money was withdrawn, would you be happy if the cashier replied 'Oh, sorry, I thought it was you; it must have been someone else.'

The bottom line is that Yorkshire Bank have done nothing wrong in denying you access to your own money without your providing suitable i.d. However, a sarcastic attitude from a member of staff is both unhelpful and frankly, unprofessional.
