View Full Version : Cheapest broadband provider @ a decent speed
Girl_Shef 26-08-2005, 16:44 Hi,
Can anybody tell me who they think is the cheapest broadband provider @ a decent speed? I would like a provider with a good service history and few problems.
thanks.
spyro2000 26-08-2005, 16:46 Telewest now do 512 @ £9.99 if you sign up online
Plus speeds are due to be increased rolling out from the 1st September
Plus this is the wrong forum ;)
I use plusnet and haven't had any problems with them.
trentboy2 26-08-2005, 23:34 I use Bulldog, I've lots of problems and it's been real hard work but I now have a connection speed of 4meg with unlimited usage and i pay £30 (includes telephone) per month, if you sign up now you get the phone free for six months.
JamesRich 27-08-2005, 08:22 Tiscali are good.
I have 2meg BB with them for £20 a month with 15gb download cap.
Just received an e-mail this morning saying they are reducing the cost to £17.99 and removing the download cap.
How good is that! Most companies go after new customers, but I think this proves that Tiscali are more concerned with keeping their existing ones happy.
Fair enough, remove the download cap, but to reduce the price aswell....................
metronet (http://www.metronet.co.uk) is well recommeded by the Which report.
I was considering switching from Wanadoo, rang them for a migration access code and tehy fell over themselves to keep me. Increased my line forn 512 to 1mb for free, waiving teh upgrade fee on £20
turtlefish 13-02-2006, 16:19 Plus Net (http://www.lymm.net/pn/) are really good, I've got a dead fast connection from them, plus they're cheap too - and based in sheff.
ToryCynic 13-02-2006, 22:08 Hi,

The Brightview group of ISPs are good for the price. (http://www.brightview.com/our_isps/index.html)
Metronet and PlusNet are the same, and very poor; Tiscali are dire; Blueyonder - yes; Bulldog - hmm... ..Bulls----.
And now Pipex have gained F2S!
:)
Savannah2 13-02-2006, 22:44 Newnet (http://www.newnet.co.uk/) or IDNet (http://www.idnet.net/)
Weazel2006 15-02-2006, 06:22 Bulldog Have a good track record with me. I have had their 512k line in 2 houses and recently had my phoneline switched to them too. I cant get 8mb unfortunately atm (which seems to be happening to an aweful lot of people) but 2mb is still a good enough boost from before.
The only thing with bulldog is the time of day you call them. You might have heard of their customer service being appaling. Well the uk based call center is always polite and bends over backwards both before and after signing up. Certain times though you will be put in touch with an off shore call center and these people are completely stupid when it comes to anything isp related.
Thats just my 2 cents
Happy hunting
Agent Dan 15-02-2006, 12:56 Pipex.net do a 2Mb unlimited access/download service for £20 a month.
Always been excellent contention rate (number of other users low so keeps bandwidth high) and have never dropped the connection once in 3 months!
Greybeard 15-02-2006, 13:51 It's worth reading the ISP User Comment forums at ADSL Guide
http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/
I went with Metronet because of the favourable comments there about their customer service and the fact that they had relatively cheap PAYG services.
Now Plusnet have gobbled up Metronet many users are expecting the quality of service to deteriorate significantly. I'll sit on the fence for a while but if things start to fall apart I''ll be asking for my migration code. Metronet have so far given me eight month's of uninterrupted connection at the max speed my line is capable of.

Is it true what they say there ? Pipex, Demon and Clara charge the standard connection fee and still impose a 12 month contract ?? :o

No connection fee at Pipex! Only took 7 days from order to online too!
I use www.adslguide.org.uk to find out which are the best - they have a very useful comparison tool.
