Is the any around Meersbrook?, will be moving there at the end of month for 6 months with work. The area seemed nice, good view over to the city and a nice park. Just dont know about the pubs etc!

Your in luck!

Just down the road is the best real ale pub in the city, the Sheaf View.

Well worth the walk down, then up the hill.

It's a very good pub if you like ale, but it's not in Meersbrook though? In fact, strangely enough, there aren't any pubs in Meersbrook at all, afaik.

ETA: Glad to hear you found somewhere to live. Just up the road in Woodseats, there's a couple of WMC, and several pubs, no real ale though sadly, afaik.

Never noticed before, but no there is a single one is there?

But within walking distance there is the Sheaf View & White Lion. Plus the Archer Road Beer Off, which is the best offie for Real Ale nuts in the City.

Also Meersbrook has good bus links (number 53) to Neepsend which has many excellent & well-documented Real Ale pubs.

So the OP is in luck!

Another place there are no pubs at all is Nether Edge and Abbeydale Road from the Broadfield right up to the Millhouses .... and yet in other places there is or was a pub on practically every corner?

And there was the Brincliffe Oaks as well. But aren't they all bunched together and the Nether Edge dance hall/TurnUps was just across the road.'

Thought this must be wrong as I understood that Meersbrook was the only "named" area in Sheffield with no pubs.

the lack of pubs is due to the old landowners being from the methodist church. there was a thread on here a few years back - great read if you can find it!

there is a huge area which is practically pub free running from millhouses to london rd with the exception of the broadfield.

from what i understand, the rules of land still remain. the methodists refused to permit alcohol sales i guess.

maybe someone else can back this up?

rising sun? or is that nether green?Yes it's Nether Green.
Many people think Fulwood is Pub Free because of the Church, but it's because of a covenant on the land placed there by one of the original land owners well before the Church was built.

Hurrah for the Sheaf View! I've just moved nearby (been going for years though) so it's now my local. Get in! :D
