Hi all,

Can anybody recommend a decent gym in Sheffield? My main interests there would be Streetdance, yoga, and possibly some kind of competative sport e.g. badminton? Social activities would be good too.

What is best value wise? What is most luxourious - e.g. jucuzzi etc?

Advice appreciated :-)

For competitive sport and social activities your best off looking at some of the smaller gyms that are within sports centres (like Abbeydale, Hallamshire). Some of these small gyms also run classes as well - at Abbeydale there is yoga and I think maybe a dance class as well. some people will tell you to go to the fitness firsts, esporta or virgin active. I have been membrs of all of these. In these places there are no social activities (unless you are 60+ in which you may get a free cup of tea and a natter after a pilates class) and no competitive sport. If you think about it, these places are set in stone, people pump thousands into them year after year yet the facilities stay the same. At places like Abbeydale and the Hallamshire although the gyms are not equipped with your technogym system or 6 TV mutli channels, they are superb value for money and the money they generate goes into the club. These clubs have loads of comp leagues, they have tennis and squash comps, Abbeydale has badminton club as well. hope this helps (sorry for the rant!)

Most luxurious has to be the Virgin gym off Abbeydale road. Great jacuzzi/sauna set up. Better than either Esporta or Greens.
