It's my mission at the weekend to buy a car. Can anybody recommend a decent second hand place where they are friendly, sell good quality cars and don't rip you off?

Depends what sort of vehicle you want and how much you are prepared to pay?

I'm looking for a small car (peugeot 106, clio, polo etc). Can afford £3000 max.

If you don't mind me suggesting - try to stay clear of old French cars as they tend to cost you a lot of money! That's talking from experience and also from what freinds and family say.
My boyfriend bought a car from the one further down Woodseats road towards Heeley bridge, going into Sheffield, just before the traffic lights.

Carterknowle Motors, on far end of Abbeydale Road - just before the t junction where you go left for sainsburys.

Bought my car from them a few months ago and they were ok.

buy a copy of free-ads and ad-mag. you'll get a much better deal than at a garage. they have there profits to consider. take a mate who knows a little about car maintenence and a price guide with you! good luck

Some people dont want to risk a private buyer who will also have profit and money in mind, the same as a garage.

Also, a private seller knows you have no comeback against them, whereas with a garage you do.

There are plenty of good garages in sheffield to choose from, i would take your time looking for a car and make sure that every thing checks out before handing your cash over.

Just to beware, stay away from H F Bows on bramall Lane,as i purchased my car from them, when thing went wrong they would not sort this out with in the first thirty days.

Just a bit of advice.

also from my personal experiance stay clear of sheaf motors paid £3,500 cash week or two after warranty ran out complete new engine needed £1000 cash,plus attitude terrible.

There is a garage on Broadfield Rd below Heeley baths Noyland & Rhodes, they seem to have a fair selection and good turnover and theyv'e been there a while which is usually a go

Its true that Volkswagen Audi own Skoda, but Bickerton Skoda is very much a family buisness which sell Skoda's products (and some non Franchise cars which are traded in). :rolleyes:

we have had a couple of cars from century motors at the side of netto at hillsborough,they do mot as well and dont rip you off:thumbsup:

I would like to recommend a little garage called 'The Pitch' nearby to Meadowhall I purchased a Rover car there 3years ago never a moments problem with it nice friendly people to deal with and no high pressure bu*****t.

I bought my clio 2 months ago from a garage next to that small police station on chesterfield road at heeley for £1,200.
They were really friendly and helpful, and all the cars are checked out by the RAC. They even cleaned the car and put some petrol in for me before I drove it away.

Try Crosspool car centre. I've had two good cars off them. Ask for Sean.

Have not bought one myself,but the car sales at the btm of Barrow Rd,Meadowhall,has quite impressive guarantees.MPI checked,RAC inspected,etc,worth a look.Good luck.
