I have been quoted 275, fixed price, for moving from a two bed flat to a two bed house, both in Sheffield.

Does this sound reasonable or does anybody know of anyone cheaper.

Thanks.

I am about to move as well and I am going to use the same people as my parents and grandmother did recently. They're called Merrill's, based in Hillsborough, but cover the whole of sheffield. They charge £35 per hour Mon-Thurs, or £40 on Friday, and a minimum 4 hour call out. They did my parents from 3 bed house to 2 bed bungalow in well under 4 hours and they were great, so it cost them £140. I'd give them a call if I were you! I'm sure they're in yellow pages.

Thanks for the advice.

The same company quoted me about 40 an hour, but my concern is that it could take all day. There could be all sorts of hold ups and if I'm landed with a bill for 8 hours +, thats 320 +.

It's a hard one. Take a risk and go for the hourly rate or get a fixed quote?????????????????.

Is there a particular reason why it might take all day?

Well, as I said, both my parents and my grandmother recently used Merrills. They moved my parents from a 3-bed in Hillsborough to a 2 bed in Heeley in well under 4 hours, and my nannan from the 7th floor of a tower block to her new home, again in well under four hours - so I'd say they're worth the risk!

There are many factors coming in to play. Any removal company could have me out of this property and into the new one in under four hours.
But when you factor in, the solicitor, the banks, the people moving out of the house I'm moving into, the people moving out of the house thay are moving into etc, it could take all day.

So they're moving out and you're moving in on completion day? Any way you could get round that and go say the day after? Or have you got to be out of your property?

Yes I have to be out of my property the same day.

Bugger :( I think I'd go for the fixed price on then if I were you. Thankfully I have the luxury of moving after completion.

You get what you pay for - Pickfords would probably charge you a grand but they would pack and unpack everything. We've gone for a fixed price from Greens, we foun most quotes were similar, and we are paying £376 but we know they are insured, reputable and trustworthy. SBS seemed good too, it was a toss up for us
