View Full Version : My dog started limping
sarahjh25 06-04-2010, 20:16 My 10 month old dog has started limping today and theys no obvious cuts or anything and he keeps licking and nibbling at his poorly paw, hes in pain when i try to look at it ive booked him in the vets tomaz just wondered if anyone might know what it is?
Are the claws ok? Are they curled round onto the pad? Has he split one?
sarahjh25 06-04-2010, 20:22 just had a look none curled but what am i looking for to identify a split one?
like a crack in it? It might only look like a hair
sarahjh25 06-04-2010, 20:30 cant really see one hes licking at his pad on his paw and licking in between his toes
you could try bathing it in warm water with a bit of bicarb added to soothe it, and possibly lift any foreign body
sarahjh25 06-04-2010, 20:44 thanks will try that
peakpractice 06-04-2010, 20:44 when our dog used to start licking constantly between the pads it was often an embedded thorn which was always difficult to find without visiting the vet.
FallenAngel6 06-04-2010, 20:49 :( oh no i hope hes ok could be a cut on inbetween his tores has he been walking near any glass???
sarahjh25 06-04-2010, 20:51 thanks don't think so i cant see no blood or anything
FallenAngel6 06-04-2010, 20:52 could hae stopped bleeding if theres glass stuck in it

I have had dogs all my life and it is usually a thorn or something similar that gets in-bedded either in between pads and skin or in pad its self ,you could try looking with a magnifiying glass or specs that magnify if you have them.
sarahjh25 06-04-2010, 20:54 he wont let me have a good long look at his paw he starts nibbling at my hand and rolls over
My dog ( Neopolitian Mastiff ) started limping last week and his paw started to swell i took him to the vet antibiotics and an xray £447.00 later hes better .... they said it was an infection but not sure what , no entry wound just a swelling .. Blood hell.:o My pups had a cut of the bottom of her pad that healed fine but it was followed with swelling on the top and eventually she chewed a hole in the top of the foot. Vets reconed something had gone in the bottom and worked its way to the top. Anyway its gone down loads now (small lump and abit of a scab remain) and we (me and vets) decided to leave it and just to give her antibiotics but the other option was xrays. Now i know i made the right choice after seeing your bill. :o

I was between insurences. I cant claim for 30 days from the start of the new policy and my old one had just expired. My own fault I didnt get the new policy soon enough to take over from the old policy. I was hoping nothing would happen in the 5 days between the policys. sods law it did. :hihi:
But of well. Antibiotics was all that was needed
