View Full Version : Owls vs Boro (Match thread)
ThatYank 06-04-2010, 15:38 It's early for a match thread. Anything to get one's mind off that monday result.
Heard JJ is being worked on, possible for sat.
How many Owls usually travel to the Riverside?
Panthera 06-04-2010, 16:10 jj only just missed out on playing the last match, so hopefully he'll be ready for the remainder of the season.

giving us 4,000 away tickets, just shows middlesborough's poor home crowds this year

precisely plus the fact they were big favourites to go up at the start. you think we will sell out the 4,000? im tempted to go to cardiff

we'll be close, its a horrible city but as far as the match itself its massive so i think 3-3,500 will travel
the lads im going with want to do cardiff in fancy dress but im not convinced! (ive left the goal open there for a ribbing so just waiting for someone to 'tap it in' lol)

Cant see Wednesday getting anything but embarrassed at Boro
Pink2Bubble 08-04-2010, 12:05 As before, you never know whats going to happen. How many expected us to lose at QPR but pick up a win against Bristol?!
I think the safety first approach has to change, we cant draw ourselves to safety now...its win, win, win, win next 4 games, even then, others now have to slip up. Its a tough run in but you never know!
C'mon WEDNESDAY!
hurstyowl 08-04-2010, 12:27 its only a 4 goal swing and were out of it with goal difference, i think we just go for it, if jj is fit he must play, better to go down with a roar rather than a wimper.

I fully expected you to lose at QPR and you should have, you got battered.
scoobydotcom 08-04-2010, 13:04 I fully expected you to lose at QPR and you should have, you got battered.
well, they scored 1 we scored 1 so cant work out why we should have lost
Earwiggo 08-04-2010, 14:11 well, they scored 1 we scored 1 so cant work out why we should have lost
You find this a lot with Blades, they get battered and deserved a point, Wednesday on the other hand, get battered, and don't.
I can never work 'em aht.

Grandad.Malky 08-04-2010, 14:23 its only a 4 goal swing and were out of it with goal difference, .
You have scored 4 goals in your last five games, as you say “its only a 4 goal swing”
scoobydotcom 08-04-2010, 14:40 You have scored 4 goals in you last five games, as you say “its only a 4 goal swing”
watford v plymouth on sat, that will be massive!
its a big psychological thing being back in the bottom 3

4 goal swing over 4 games  simples
scoobydotcom 08-04-2010, 17:39 Every week there seems to be matches in an around us with teams playing each other
Watford v Plymouth
C. Palace v QPR
are this weekends offerings - we could be in a situation where we need to win all 3 if we're not careful
JJ's back in training - could be vital
how many did united take to boro, 1k?
canadablade 09-04-2010, 15:09 how many did united take to boro, 1k?
First match of the season
Friday night and on Sky
So wouldn't say 1,000 is bad if thats what it was, Ask someone who went how many we took.
You will take a good following because its a crucial match for you, If the Blades were relegation fodder and in the brown stuff much like you are then I am sure we would have taken that many as well.
Blades going to have over 5,000 at your Sty for a nothing match for us but, Its really your Cup Final once again ;)
scoobydotcom 09-04-2010, 15:10 how many did united take to boro, 1k?
they prob all went in the same minibus!
they dont take as many as we do away but have had bigger home attendances past few years (i think)

erm surely it's your cup final, we've got 3 other "cup finals" between now and the end of the season ... im really just looking for the points now and hopefully there's a bit of derby day success to enjoy in the close season
first game of the season against prem opposition and could only take 1,000 hahaha
canadablade 09-04-2010, 15:32 they prob all went in the same minibus!

YOU THINK ---- :hihi::hihi::hihi:
I KNOW :hihi::hihi:
Your fan base is way bigger than ours and you are a massive sleeping giant of a club so we keep getting told and you are too big a club to go down.
19,000 and an odd few for the match against Bristol,City was PATHETIC if i am being honest. We got 22,600 against them.
Watford for a massive game for you, you got 18,000 when we played them we got 24,600 --- That massive game you had against Derby County you got 21,000 when we played them we got 25,000.
Yes you take more away, but Strapon wants 25,000 for home matches not 18and 19,000.
Anyways back on topic, think you will win tomorrow J ermm I mean Scooby :D
hurstyowl 09-04-2010, 15:40 :hihi::hihi::hihi::hihi::hihi::hihi:
home vs barnsley we get 30,644, you get 24,808
home vs newcastle we get 30,030, you get 26,536
swings and roundabouts, if you think we would have got the same attendences if we were in your position then i think your sadly mistaken, easy to dig at attendences when your watching utter crap and in the relegation zone

you've averaged just over 3,000 more than us this season which considering we've been down near the bottom all season i think is bleedin good! I would gurantee if we were in and around the Play-Offs we'd get more than 3,000 extra in!!! Not much point doing the whole we got more than you for this game thing cos it depends on so many things, we got 30k+ against barnsley, you got 24k - some might say that's pathetic (i would)
Who keeps telling you we're too big to go down? ive not heard anyone say that since we went down to League 1 first time round
J? dont get it ... i've predicted a loss in the prediction league and i honestly cant see us winning, but it aint impossible
Grandad.Malky 09-04-2010, 15:47 :watching utter crap and in the relegation zone

these figures aren't important though, only the games where they actually got more count;) no point in all this talk of atendances though, plenty of things make a difference to the attendances in a season, i think the figures we've been getting are very good considering out position.
as for the game i'm expecting us to lose but no change there:hihi: i've given up predicting how we'll do until the end of the season but we do seem to do ok against the better teams so who knows

Dream on, when you wake up you might even be out of the relegation zone.
Earwiggo 10-04-2010, 10:07 We've got to go for it today, no fannying around with trying to get a point.
Go there, straight for the jugular, and wallop these turkeys.
I'd go a back 4 of Nolan, Purse, Beevers and Gray.
I'd go a midfield 4 of Tudgay (wide right) Hinds (holding) O'Connor (biting) and Spurr (wide left).
Up front I'd have Clarke and Varney.
Just prior to kick off, Tudgay, Spurr and Clarke would get the double 'hairdryer' treatment with all 3 being given 20 minutes to shine and make proper impacts on the game. If Tudgay shows his 'I can't be bothered' attitude, and doesen't try 100% from the first whistle, I'd sub him after the first 10 minutes.
I'd fully expect 100% from the 4 defenders, and Hinds and O'Connor, as I reckon they've all shown the right attitude.
Tudgay playing properly, and Spurr should be firing in crosses for the whole 95minutes.
Earwiggo 10-04-2010, 10:14 Should my little plan not bear fruit, I'd look to bring Jeffers on in a 'John Sheridan' role, and I'd give JJ a free role up front, doing what the hell he likes.
With 20 to go, if we're still not in a winning position, I'd go 3 at the back, and push Purse up front.
It's no good us going in to this game with our present outlook, ..... lose this one, ......... lose at Cardiff, .... draw with United .......... and beat Palace!!!
We HAVE to win this game!!!!!
Playing with the right attitude and conviction, we can win all 4 remaining games (we did Cardiff away last season).
None of the games are overly difficult, only for the 'woe is me' brigade.
Get out there Wednesday, and thrash Boro' out of sight!!!!
If we go to any remaining games and play with fear, we're doomed.

Boro have nothing to play for now (as the playoffs are beyond them realistically) so should be beatable today; blades only have local pride to play for, and aren't exactly on a great run recently; Cardiff may well have a secure playoff spot by then, which could lead to key players being rested, so a good chance of at least a point there; and Palace... may all be sorted out by then anyway.
hurstyowl 10-04-2010, 13:07 please just go for it today wednesday, its better to go out with a roar rather than a wimper, id like to know that we actually ran this game to the end and if we lose doing so i cant complain.

Here we go again. :(
hurstyowl 10-04-2010, 15:36 i feel like crying :( scunny come from 1-0 down to be winning 2-1, todays results are pretty much summing our season up. and what makes it worse is it sounds like wednesday arent playing very well. ffs im going to go get drunk!
hurstyowl 10-04-2010, 15:48 typical, the best piece of play that comes from wednesday is a save from lee grant :hihi: we will struggle without him next season
Earwiggo 10-04-2010, 15:51 Wednesday playing well according to the Owl - Varadi and the Blade - Seth Bennett. Giving it a reight go, but can't score again. Hit woodwork twice (I think) Not having any luck up front whatsoever, but we've had a bit of luck defending.
Not throwing bodies up as I think we should do when in this position.
Sounds like we can't fault the effort, Grant the saviour again, but toothless again up front.
We can still win the last three. :( :)
Earwiggo 10-04-2010, 15:52 Scunny 2-2 now.
Earwiggo 10-04-2010, 15:54 Scunny 3-2 down !!!!
Still not good though.
crookesey 10-04-2010, 15:54 Scunny 2-2 now.
They are losing now.
hurstyowl 10-04-2010, 15:54 scunny lost it, a bit of good news, still not optimistic though, asif the derby wasnt already a big game
Earwiggo 10-04-2010, 16:00 Trust Plymouth to not turn up at Watford.
Can't rely on other teams though, we've gorra do it ourselves.
Or not ..................... as is the case at present.
canadablade 10-04-2010, 16:11 scunny lost it, a bit of good news, still not optimistic though, asif the derby wasnt already a big game
You need to worry about your lack of scoring....
Looking at the fixtures I reckon If you beat us then you will stay up.
Palace chucking it away, Wouldn't look as far ahead as Scunny as they have a game in hand.
Credit to Watford today, had to win at home and did much like west Sham did
NERVY-OWL 10-04-2010, 16:12 from what my brother says it was a mistake by the defence for their goal, played a quick free kick short and their player nipped in and scored(maybe with a deflection from purse). looking at results today it could of been a whole lot worse but i'm not confident of staying up, even wit a derby win it looks tough but hopefully we will try and go for it in the last games. all winnable games if the team plays how we know they can

Beat Utd and then quite possibly lose two, not a chance CB. I reckon that even 4 points might not be enough..

If there is any blame in their goal it comes from our midfield standing off and letting him come through the middle too easy, then the shot just took a massive deflection and Grant had no chance.
Without the deflection it looked like it would have been an easy save.
It was a weird game again, much like mondays, we didn't deserve to lose, but we just don't do enough going forward.
It's saying something when we're in a relegation dog fight, we need wins and our best players are the defenders and goal keeper.

A shocking goal to concede (again), but then again, we're well used to it.
We're not conceding many, but 1 is usually too many as you well know.
