View Full Version : How much do you love your ciggies!...lets see
ok..how many do you have in a week? how much do they cost?
work out the weekly cost...then x4 for month then x12 for the year and lets see people post how much they spend a year (roughly)
 maybe it will put some of you off... its like a big pay rise if you stop :)
If you got the whole years money in one go it would be an incentive, but TBH when I stopped smoking I didn't find myself any better of money wise, you just spend it on something else.

Similarly I don't find I have any less money because I smoke.
But I smoke because I still enjoy it. I'm conscious that I need to quit, and I will do so in the future.
spyro2000 26-08-2005, 09:58 Yeah I dont think quitting smoking will really make a big difference to my pocket. You could say the same about anything...
ie, if I walked to work everyday, Id save X amount of money, if I bought cheaper food id save X amount of money. Everyone can cut down somewhere, doesnt have to be smoking, and like nick2 says, If you had the money all in one go it would make a difference, but not when its just a weekly or monthly saving.
Gotta agree
Last time I quit I put a fiver in a pot every 2 days to "simulate" the money i usually spend on fags. However, 2 weeks in, bill comes in, bit skint so raided it.
So yeah I never really felt any better off as a non-smoker. Weird ain't it?
A friend of mine at home gave up smoking to buy a Ford KA. The money she saves on the smoking goes towards paying the loan back every month. She puts a fiver in a jar every day, then a few days before the money comes out of her account, she pays it all back in, and it pays for the car.
Unforunately, some ******** nicked the car two weeks ago, only three weeks after she had it, and she has to wait 4 weeks before the insurance company will cough up, and then another month before the car will be ready from the factory.

Don't even try to stop until you realy want to, it's 100 times worse if you still want to smoke, like I do, the niccotine craving has gone (I think) but I still want to smoke because it was something I enjoyed.
If they invented cigs that wern't bad for you I'd start again.

I stopped and didn't notice the money factor which was disappointing. Thought I 'd be loaded.
After no ciggies for 16 months now ( just worked it out) I am glad my house and clothes don't stink of fags. I am glad I don't have that sore throat feeling after a late night and too many fags.
But still over a year later I still miss a fag when I have a pint or glass of wine.

I should think I'd miss most things after a pint of wine.
Stairs, Door handles etc.
pah lol.
out of the boat..into denial ;) haha
its obvious you would save lots of money....wether you spend it on other things or not...you are still saving.
i just dont know how people afford getting by with the money the spend on ciggies.

I did try twiglets but the other half said smelling/tasting like Marmite is as bad as smelling/tasting of cigs.

I can only eat them when I am drunk. Otherwise I don't like them.

Greybeard 26-08-2005, 11:42 Surely if you stop smoking it would be sensible to put the money saved into your pension fund ? No point in living longer if it's to be living on the breadline.
£4 a day over 30 years is almost £44k, - nice little nest egg :)

Of course you could stop smoking, put all the money in a pension and then drop dead the day before you retire.
Stopping smoking doesn't guarantee you will live to a ripe old age.
I say spend it now.

That must be in the small print, - I never read the small pint ;)

Strangely a lot of smokers live to a ripe old age. My grandfather smoked from 14 to 74 and died from a kidney infection, - totally unrelated to smoking.
Agent Dan 26-08-2005, 22:31 £20 a week = £80 pcm = £960 a year. Well spent, I reckon ;)
yosser_huges 27-08-2005, 11:06 i enjoy a ciggie, cost me 20 quid a month, get 6 bags of baccie and that does me for the month and half. so actually its less a month.
