Hi there just wondered if any of you knowledgable people could offer me some advice. I have a female spayed tabby who is approx 2 years old. I have had her from 4 months and she always used her litter tray- never been a problem. For the past 3 or so months though she has took to weeing on the kitchen floor. She still uses her litter tray for pooing but now refuses to wee in there! It is always in the same place too. I am constantly having to clean it- its cushion floor so quite easy to clean but i am just wondering how i can stop her and why you think she has started doing it.
She is mostly an indoor cat- she is very reluctant to go out and never stays out longer than about 10 minutes by that time she is desperately scratching and crying to come back in- it seems outdoors is not really her thing. Even when she does go out she has never weed out there but waits till she comes back in.
I cant really leave her out and hope that she learns to do it there as she literally shakes she is that scared when out.
Any suggestions as to what i can try and stop this.
I just find it odd she uses it for one thing and not the other. She is our only pet, not sure if that might make a difference. Thanks.

I had one cat who refused to use a cat litter tray unless it had just been changed! She'd plait her legs and then dash in as soon it was done.

Some cats can be very fastidious and don't like to pee where they've had a poo - do you remove the poo from the tray as soon as she's done one? If you're out at work, I can see that would be a problem!!

I can only suggest that you put her an extra cat litter tray where she's peeing, if possible. Cats have a very keen sense of smell and you're probably not getting rid of all the scent of pee, which is why she keeps going back there. I believe the best way to remove the smell is by washing the area with biological washing powder, rather than disinfectant, and certainly not bleach, as the smell of that seems to attract most cats!

Luckily I've not had the weeing on the floor problem, but one of my cats is a bit fastidious and if there is more than 2 pieces of poop in the tray will sit in front of it, looking at the tray and then looking at me every time I go past (even if he is desperate) and won't use it til I clean the poop out. I have 3 cats at the moment and always have 2 trays on the go, maybe more than one tray could help for a bit.
