View Full Version : Those battling Blades
canadablade 06-04-2010, 02:07 Gave it all they had tonight and then some, proud to be a Blade.
How many times do you see holding in the area and a penalty is given DIABOLICAL
2 players offside when Nolan scored but he was onside
Still thought we gave as good as we got and if they stay up next season i will eat my hat, Bloody Gutierez(sp) and that Carrol never stopped whinging.
85 minutes gone and all you can hear is
WE ARE BLADESMEN SUPER BLADESMEN FROM THE LANE

ThatYank 06-04-2010, 02:14 heard the match today and really thought they had a good chance at a draw or a win. the first half was certainly a thriller. the 2nd half well..............
man! am still in shock by Wednesdays loss today.

1st half Blades the better team.
Still in shock about wednesdays loss, I am still buzzing and getting drunk :hihi::hihi::hihi:
ThatYank 06-04-2010, 02:27 not a drinker, but don't you have work tomorrow?
if we go down, sorry to see we won't have any interesting steel city derby "interactions"

Did you watch the same game?we know Morgan is not Einstein but the ref told him and his next move is to hold Carrol.
I agree they battled hard and their work rate was exceptional but they lacked that extra class, I think Newcastle will have a great chance of staying in the Premiership.

Same result as us,no points, now our matches are massive including the derby,2 wins minimum.

I have to agree. Morgan was an idiot and the Nolan goal was onside. A good performance from the blades but it was like men against boys, skill-wise. I think they will finish around halfway in the Premier.
Grandad.Malky 06-04-2010, 07:55 it was like men against boys
That’s a bit harsh on Newcastle isn’t it?

I think I will cope.

That's funny, but I think if you look at the game realistically there really was a big gap in skill between the two sides. We played well, but it was a fighting performance and in the end the difference showed. There are some good Championship players in our team but no Premier class like Newcastle have got.
Ousetunes 06-04-2010, 08:46 I thought for a side which I hardly recognise these days, the Blades did quite well; but Newcastle certainly gave us a lot of space.
The two up front were hard to deal with and Monty (one of a few I still recognise) really put himself about.
But it's an ordinary side playing unattractive football with a manager out of his depth.
Time for change or we may well resemble our neighbours next season.
NB. Good luck Newcastle next season. I like the way Hughton has gone about his business quietly and with little fuss. Not wishing to gloss over their success this season, I think they too will need to invest heavily next season if they're to have a fighting chance in the top league.
al_partridge 06-04-2010, 08:50 CB was obviously watching the game through his tinted specs, no surprise there. United may have battled and frustrated Newcastle for a while, but with a little more composure in front of goal Newcastle could have had half a dozen.
It was a nailed on penalty. True, it was for the kind of foul that penalties are rarely given for, but nobody can watch the replay and say that it wasn't a foul and if Morgan didn't keep his brain in his elbows he'd have had more sense than to hold Carroll when it was clear the ref would be watching him.
matt1889 06-04-2010, 09:10 Last night was probably one of Uniteds better performances in recent weeks, yes obviously Newcastle had the better skill and overall were the better team, however thats what you come to expect from a team with the players and wage bill that they have.
United on the other hand went away from home and attacked the game for the forst time in a while which was refreshing to watch for once.......In the boozer after the match a couple of their fans said they had been to both matches just like me and thought we were a completely different team last night to what we were at The Lane and that in the first half they feared us a bit.
Like i said above they were better than us over 90 mins, however they were better equipped and regardless i'm not gonna knock The Blades grit and determination, one thing that really worried me and I wanna point out was Newcastles pacey wingers who were to good for Uniteds shakey full backs.
Panthera 06-04-2010, 10:11 the owls and blades are both big time berties, they pull a performance out of the bag when they play a good team, then drop back into the rut once again when what they think is lesser opposition is the next game....
I think that we played well last night- hassled them well in midfield (until we run out of energy after 75 minutes) and hedno led the line upfront well BUT- taylor and nosworthy were the worst 2 players on the pitch by a country mile- the barcodes wingers were just ghosting past them at times and it lead to the first goal.
still- an improvement on what we have seen recently.
Btw- anyone else notice that blackwell was in a suit, why does feel the need to dress up for the cameras??? If he concentrated more on what is going on on the pitch rather than what everyone thinks he looks like we would be in a better position.

Compleatly agree- both teams love being the perrential underdogs.

Maybe he was off to a funeral, something to cheer him up a bit?

And you obviously were watching it through those blue tinted specs pal so no suprise there either...
Blades better team for 44 minutes in the first half, gave as good as they got in the second half and if we had brought our shooting boots could have been 2-1 in front ourselves a couple of times.
Newcastle I am sure are better than what they showed on the night but, trust me today they will have know they were in a match last night.
Could have heard a pin drop from those 50,000 as well till they scored that pen, Yes a nailed on pen but, rarely given and thats the frustrating part.
Blades can hold thier heads high knowing we went there, gave them a game a could have nicked a point
Being a blade through and through means nowt. Its about getting results
HeadingNorth 06-04-2010, 13:10 Yes a nailed on pen but, rarely given and thats the frustrating part.
True. It's very frustrating that it is not often given, and it's very satisfying to know that at least this one was, as it should be.

And if it was against the owls you lot would be squealing blue murder
Panthera 06-04-2010, 13:43 And if it was against the owls you lot would be squealing blue murder
na we're not the ones who like to take things just that little bit too far

I'm not an owl.

It was a penalty, though. If I hadn't watched the ref telling Morgan for 5 minutes before hand not to hold on to him then I might have felt it was harsh because it happens all the time, but I knew before the whistle went that it was going to be a penalty. I think Morgan is great, but thinking isn't his one of his strong points.
canadablade 06-04-2010, 15:21 I'm not an owl.
I like you already :D
It was a penalty no doubt, just saying its never called and I saw worse in the Forest vs Cardiff and the Chelsea vs Moan U matches and they weren't called so I can see Blackwell and Speedo being frustrated.
Why all of a sudden is it called a pen when Newcastle are losing on their promotion day --- JOKE END OF
HeadingNorth 06-04-2010, 16:14 It was a penalty no doubt, just saying its never called and I saw worse in the Forest vs Cardiff and the Chelsea vs Moan U matches and they weren't called so I can see Blackwell and Speedo being frustrated
Well, yes ... if they are six years old. That's usually about the age where people learn that "but he was doing it too!" is not, and never has been, a valid defence.
And what fantastic support from the Blades fans - probably the best atmosphere away all season.
The Geordies were non existent until they went ahead, and we still sang on...
And at the end, their fans were told to stay in their seats as the team would come out for a lap of honour, I can't believe many bothered to stay because most of them left straight away
scoobydotcom 06-04-2010, 17:20 First half United put some Newcastle under some real pressure and didnt give them any room, played pretty well and i was wondering what all you Unitedites have been banging on about all season! It was a penalty but you rarely see them given in the box, but someone of Morgan's experience should know better after being told by the ref ... you could see it was gonna happen a mile off.
Second half Newcastle played as they have done all season, nothing to exciting to watch but efficient and effective and their goal was that touch of class that has seperated them from everyone else (bar maybe WBA) this season

Pretty much as i saw it but was told i had my red tinted specs on by Partridge.
We had a couple of chances to go 2-1 up

As you said the question was to CB
Who rattled on your cage and shouted peanuts?
crookesey 06-04-2010, 18:24 If I'd have wanted your opinion I'd have requested someone with football knowledge to give it
Who rattled on your cage and shouted peanuts?
Settle down now, your sense of humour is most likely still in the post.
