hi there

im sure many people were sad to here about the late Richard Whitely but im sure many a person out there loved the show. personally i thought it was one of the best quiz shows ever and so would love to see it return to the screens.

Does anyone agree?
If so who would be a good presenter to replace Richard?

I think countdown should come back with guest hosts....it worked with 'Have I got News for You??' when Angus was incommunicado!!

It'll be coming back with one main presenter by the looks of things, with auditions in September

It's Carol & her cameltoe I really miss...

It will be very odd for me. Obviously the person I want to do the show with is Richard = Carol Vorderman

:gag: what a smell there'd be in the studio.

My money's on Giles Brandreth to replace RW - what do you reckon? :D

From seeing him on the Edingboro fringe, I think you will find that Nic Parsons will be the host from Sept............or was that a joke?

Thanks for the info rtapper. Im glad to see that countdown will return to the screens but it will be really hard to find one presenter to replace Richard.

I think it will be a real struggle to find someone who was as popular as he was.

I would like to see Tom O'Connor presenting it, although I would like to see the return of Crosswits.

Crosswits? Sod that, I want Catchphrase back, with Roy Walker presenting...

"It's close, but it's not right."
Catchphrase was ok, but not as mentally stimulating
"Say what you see."
The clues in crosswits were always set by Bunthorne, my third favourite setter of the Guardian crossword.
I also like John Junkin and Annabelle Giles (before she reached the boil).

i know what u mean abotu catchphrase Rich. The newer ones were no where near as good as the Roy Walker ones - he was catchphrase!

just like richard whitely was countdown, and thats why i think it will be very hard to replace him.

Dont get me wrong i cant wait for the new countdowns but it wont be the same without richard.

hey everyone exciting news - has anyone read the Mirror today?

Well Des lynam is the favourite to replace richard with Paul Merton not far behind. The show is to be aired in october.

Who does everyone else think it should be, Des or Paul?

Paul would have to stifle his humour for the old dears audience sadly.

Des would have the trademark wooly pully (akin to the Whitely tie) that the old folk would knit in their thousands to send in.

So I reckon it's going to be dezzy

No no no - bring back Treasure Hunt and let them use the internet rather than looking through the contents of the library [in fact you could have viewers at home helping out via webcams..]

Sod that, bring back.... KNIGHTMARE!

I was watching it on Challenge this morning and even now all these years later that show still owns! Although David Learner as Pickle is annoying.

Countdown returns on Monday at 15.30.

I can see millions of students across the land doing even less study than usual that day :P
