banesmabes   10 #1 Posted August 25, 2005 I'm about to move into my first proper (i.e. not rented!) home, but it could do with a new bathroom suite. I have looked at how much suites are and I know I wouldn't spend a fortune on it - I'd just get a fairly standard white suite. However I have no idea how much I'd have to then save up to have it fitted. Can anyone give me any ideas for what they have paid to have a new bath, sink and toilet installed (and the old ones taken away)?  I'm not going to be in a position to get quotes for a while yet, I just need to get a ball park figure to save towards. Not bothered about extras like shower (already a decent one in) and tiling (my dad can do this!), so just the basic installation. MTheo   10 #3 Posted August 25, 2005 a lot of plumbers will advise against bathroom suites from CERTAIN places as they are cheap...and a pain to fit.  your best TRYING to get someone round to measure up and quote you.  ermm... 600 ?   im gonna be a plumber in 2 years....if ur still luking let me know hahaha
 Share this content via...
the_rudeboy   12 #4 Posted August 25, 2005 You can pick up a suite for about £200-250. A mate has just bin quoted £200 to fit one. Get some cheap tiles for around £50....tiling is pretty straight forward. Total around £500.
 Share this content via...
Shiesh   13 #5 Posted August 25, 2005 yeah I would recommend somewhere like Plumbco etc  Do not buy from a DIY store like MFI/B&Q/Focus/Homebase etc unless you want dirt cheap ie., selling property on!  If you are 'living' in this property and want it to last go to a plumbers merchants or specialist..we got our cloakroom suite from Rawsons Bathrooms on Abbeydale...they were very competitively prices which surprised me and the suite supplied is absolute quality!!
 Share this content via...

Get a bath with 3mm acrylic thickness and when you stand up you'll probably put your foot through it. Wickes and B & Q sell garbage when it comes to bathrooms.  From someone in the trade, you can't buy a good quality cheap bathroom suite. You can buy a cheap one OR you can pay more and buy a good quality one.  We sell baths with at least 5mm acrylic - we sell others with 8mm acrylic. Our suites cost in the region of £500 to £1200, we know who to recommend to fit - they'll quote you free of charge and we've been in business 76 years.  You want to go to Wickes? Feel free but just don't bring your faulty parts into us three months later.
 Share this content via...
Lickable   10 #9 Posted August 26, 2005 I got one from homebase for 200, i got it on a % off day, think it was 10% or 25%  It was fairly easy to fit. If you look on the B&Q website, it shows you how to fit them yourself. It took around 4 hours for the bath and an hour for the sink.  The one thing that i found to be a bit crappy however, was the underlying framework. We had to build our own from wood and metal.  Good luck  P.S.  My parents bought a bath from B&Q 15 years ago and it still looks very new with no problems over the years. Cyclone   10 #10 Posted August 26, 2005 we had quotes of around 10k for completely redoing the bathroom. But that included moving a wall, taking out a chimney breast, etc...  In the end we did it ourselves at less than 2k.
 Share this content via...
BruciesBabe   10 #11 Posted August 26, 2005 Hia,  I'm just about to move into my first real house - very scary! and this needs a new bathroom (only after Ive knocked some walls down!)..  I'm going to get a relatively cheap and simple suite and then dress it up with nice taps and a nice sink..  I'm also moving the kitchen - that is going to be rather more expensive!!! nick2   10 #12 Posted August 26, 2005 I paid about £3K, for the entire bathroom gutting, a wall moving, a new shower, toilet and sink, a new radiator, new floor boards (the old ones had rotted under the bath), tiles floor to ceiling, an extractor fan and the floor tiled plus a new ceiling with spotlights.  Oh, and a new door.  Took about 3 weeks.  I painted the door frame and did the grouting.  I don't like DIY much  DON'T order anything from B&Q, they lost all the stuff I ordered and actually give me someone elses order when I went down to complain.
