View Full Version : Neil Warnocks comments on Wednesday
KezzaSheff 04-04-2010, 03:05 Id like to start by extending a warm welcome to Sheffield Wednesday and their "superb" fan's.
Wednesday are obviously a team i know a lot about, having worked for there rivals Sheffield United for such a long period of time.
I know a lot about the rivalry that exists and working and living in the city has given me the insight that they're a big big club.
History alone suggests that and i think they have made a very sound appointment in handing Alan the reins.
They've picked a very good manager for the long term and like ourselves, it's all about finding some much needed stability now.
The fan base is huge and everyone in the country knows that they're a sleeping giant.
(away attendance 1749)
Grandad.Malky 04-04-2010, 08:31 Reverse psychology, irony. **** take, he was good at them all, having said that he as started to kerb his ways.
LADYBIRDS 04-04-2010, 10:39 what did you expect him to say??
Sheffield Wednesday, as you know Sheffields second team, a poor relation to my life long beloved blades, their home support has droped in recent seasons, but we expect a good turn out today in their season long relegation battle, a day out to the capital for those poor old yorkshire folk, we are only 6 mile from Wembley you know! We hope the fans have a safe journey and hope the trains were free of trouble.

yea thats what i would expect him to say:hihi:, it is warnock after all:D
Michael_W 04-04-2010, 10:59 I think Mr Warnock realised the Blue and better half of the city ain't that bad after Mr Bean had a rant at him the day the mighty Blades got relegated and he ended his tenure at t'Lane, all Blades aren't we PMSL :hihi: :hihi:
On a more serious note the 24,808 at the Lane yesterday against Barnsley was a poor turnout don't you think :hihi: :hihi:
LADYBIRDS 04-04-2010, 11:06 LOL WE HAVE DONE THAT ONE 25,000 !! and an Owl calls it disappointing.
crookesey 04-04-2010, 11:36 LOL WE HAVE DONE THAT ONE 25,000 !! and an Owl calls it disappointing.
What was the away support allocation?
Michael_W 04-04-2010, 12:08 LOL WE HAVE DONE THAT ONE 25,000 !! and an Owl calls it disappointing.
Sign of things to come though eh, your brief stint as Sheffields No1 supported club may be coming to an end unless you can give away more of those free season tickets for kids, oh and under 25,000 v Barnsley on a bank holiday weekend is disappointing LOL !
You have laughed at our attendances whenever possible, you must accept it back at ya !
NERVY-OWL 04-04-2010, 13:06 What was the away support allocation?
it will of been 2800 like all away teams i guess. under 25k for a bank holiday game, must be worrying for you blades if blackwell keeps his job for next season. if you don't nearly fill the ground for a south yorkshire derby the attendances for the lesser games could be very disappointing

The dingles would have brought twice that, had they been allowed.

You’ve only come to see United, Or perhaps not. :(
Grappler 04-04-2010, 13:36 I think you have to remember that after the dreadful weather we have had this year, that many people had booked this weekend to go away for a short break. Eight people who we usually meet at the pub for a pre match drink were away on holiday and three of the blokes who sit behind us were away on holiday. So all in all I thought 25,000 was reasonable really.
LADYBIRDS 04-04-2010, 13:39 There were loads of spaces on the dingle away end to the wings of the stand. Had we been in the play-offs , of course the gate would have been bigger, there were many that stayed away for the first time this season, just like the many many thousands that have stayed away from S6 ALL season.
But i do think in your run in many part time stay away fans may return, to share the possible "glory" of avoiding relegation. You never knoe your gates may even break the 22,000 again.
crookesey 04-04-2010, 13:52 You’ve only come to see United, Or perhaps not. :(
Never been on the top of my wish list, however SUFC could have got circa 28,000, if they didn't keep on sticking to their away support allocation maximum. It's their business, but appears to be a bit daft, I am sure that we will end up giving 7000 to utd for the derby, it's a business after all.

From what I hear they didn't sell out the original allocation to its maximum.
United are more than prepared to give the top tier to away fans, if they can sell out both allocations.
With regards the Owls, we can pretty much sell out when we play you
louisblade 04-04-2010, 14:00 Never been wednesdays biggest fan in truth has he so he bit his lip quite well :D

SWFC's average gate as of 03/04/10 was 22041, you never knoe what the run in could do. ;)
scoobydotcom 04-04-2010, 14:15 You’ve only come to see United, Or perhaps not. :(
while all the united fans came to fight each other!
kenny gray 04-04-2010, 20:53 why do we worry or rather hang on every word warnock says?his record is not that good could not keep utd. in the top flight, could not motivate them to get apoint at home in the last match of the season.got up all the refs.noses so we never got the 50/50 decisions.bought strikers who could not score goals, and way past their sell buy date.
KezzaSheff 04-04-2010, 20:58 I think it was a lot to do with him being a "true" Sheffielder which made people take to him so much.
kenny gray 04-04-2010, 21:19 we need good managers not so called sheffielders,he has said many times after games he cannot wait to get down to cornwell or wherever his home is.i attended over many years the reserve and junior matches on fine days and wet and windy days at dronfield, worksop, saltergate, and not once did i see warnock.

Reading some of the comments in the qpr programme he definatley seems like hes going through the motions but loving it.
Hes got it made down there.

I think we'll help them beat 22k but they'l never average strappy's 25k
Grandad.Malky 04-04-2010, 22:41 Hes got it made down there.
It will be is make or break season, a club with ambition and money, no excuses if it all goes wrong.
NERVY-OWL 04-04-2010, 22:41 I think we'll help them beat 22k but they'l never average strappy's 25k
never? ok then:rolleyes: at the moment we wouldn't be able to average that but a couple of seasons of playoff challenges and we probably wouldn't be far off. crowds can go up as easily as they can go down, sure you wasn't expecting the crowds to drop below 25k so soon but next season your crowds could drop significantly if blackwell is in charge

will let you off then, your right about this season, i said that from the start that it wasn't going to happen. i'm hoping it was just a bluff to try and get a few extra numbers in

Thank you, but don't you wish he'd just remove his foot from his mouth before ranting off about fans while not looking after the ones he's got
Just a couple of instances selling season tickets then bringing in offers like cheap tickets for the low waged and bringing in cheap tickets 2 days before a game (I think it was 2 days maybe 3)

the only thing i'd say is if i was a season ticket holder i might be abit miffed with the £10/£5 kids offer, i don't think he has given enough back to them to make up for it but the likes of student/unemployed/forces etc i don't mind, anything to get more fans attending should be applauded, no matter if it doesn't seem to make a big difference to attendances

Nowt to do with you like but im waiting for my old username to be reinstated.
