I can listen to most, depending on my moods, but that country western stuff is awfull. Especially the ones that are supposed to be sad, i remember one on the radio can't recall the name but a line in the song went "we passed that little cripple boy from truck to truck" i almost crashed the car laughing at it.

I HATE cheesy music! Y'know the type, C'mon Eileen etc! Why why why do DJ's play this *****? EVER??!! Especially in Crasher1, don't the owners realise they were onto a good thing with that club, right up to the moment they allowed a DJ to play the first cheese tune. Now it's just another club. Yes they have some good events but it's never gonna be the "Sheffield Superclub" they aimed at when it was built as Republic.

Anyway back to the thread, cheesy music must surely be the most hated yet you don't even have an option for it on your poll!

Kids pop music is definetly the worst, stuff like crazy frog, bob the builder and the tweenies although the teletubbies song was good, if you're two!

Panda,
Are you absolutely sure that there is nothing filed by record shops under 'World' music that you wouldn't like? You seem to have fairly broad tastes, judging by other postings. The category, 'World' is perhaps the broadest of all, and I'll bet there is something in there, somewhere that you might enjoy. I admit that there is some third rate material offered as examples of indigenous musics [particularly re African music], but there is some great material too.

Try Fela Kuti [Nigeria], Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan [Pakistan] for example. Their music is superb.

Re music I dislike; I absolutely loathe the 'Happy Clappy', evangelical 'new' hymns sung by moist-eyed, anorak-wearing, 'born again' types. They always harp on about how Jesus is 'our friend', and rely upon predictable chord changes, and general smarminess, mushiness and bilge. I hate Cliff Richard too. He should be sawn in half.

from the list it has to be chavvy speed garage.

But other auditory assaults would include
Country n Western (inc ALL line dancing people)

hip hop.

and worst of all ever motown - so bad I'm not even gonna give it a capital letter!

I don't know which one to vote for as I dislike a couple equally as much as each other! Can't stand country and western because the twangy guitars and southern american accents just get on my nerves. Don't like folk music, and certainly don't like drum and base (it's just a racket!).

Speed Garage is Chav music...

As for my least favourite music, IMO rap is crap, and I hate all this feckin' teeny bopper rubbish that fills the commercial pop charts lately.. Whoever bought enough copies of the Crazy chuffing Frog single to get it to #1 deserves to be taken out into the street and shot IMO.. And no, I didn't, contrary to popular belief even I'm not THAT daft..

I know exactly what you mean!

For a while I was getting really confused - I kept hearing music being described as R&B that to me was just girlie groups singing eg Destiny's Child and the like. Thought I must be mishearing the initials!

R&B to me is essentially music made by bands such as the Stones that's based on the original American Blues.

I love 'real' R&B like that, music that's growling and smoky and dirty - not that awful dancey stuff around today.

I like something of just about all genres of music - so playing my mp3 player on random can be a bizarre experience!

The one of those options I;d have to pick would be jazz though, I just can't stand it, I've been known to leave places where they use it as background as it drives me psycho! I'm not fond of a lot of opera either, but I love choral music.

Pop would come a close second, but only a certain type of pop, meaning the churned out stuff you get these days which is deadly bland. I was listening to Human league today and it struck me how clever the lyrics were; that's GOOD pop. Even stock aitken waterman did better stuff than all this Rachel Stevens, Will Off Poptarts, Charlotte Crutch rubbish. Cliff only did one good song and that's only because the lyrics are funny - Wired for sound. Always makes me laugh when he goes "power from the needle to the plastic" for some reason. Mega cheesy pop is always funny.

I'm not sure that world and folk go together though. I love a lot of folk music but I'm not that keen on some of the world music. And I don't like too much reggae either as it gets repetitive - or is that the idea?

I love to listen to dance on my headphones or at home but I hate it when it's blasted out of car speakers for some reason - it sounds cheap, whereas through headphones it's interesting and you can get lost in it. I like rap when it's got good lyrics, but some of it is just cheesy pop cack.

Screeching American (or UK American wannabee) girl groups wind me up too, but only when out shopping. Why can't we have quiet shops???

I hate really weedy sounding modern chart Indie too - stuff like Keane and that. If I want weedy Indie I go for the interesting quirky stuff.

Even some stuf that could fall into country and western :o

Can't stick rap and hip hop. Can't stick country and western. Can't stick soul and what is now called RnB. Most pop is rubbish, and I include in that all these wimpalongaTravis bands like Keane, Embrace, Coldplay, Athlete etc (get some balls, fellas, please). Can't stick musicals, right from My Fair Lady right up to Cats/Miss Saigon etc. And I can't stick opera, though I quite like a lot of classical music.

I don't not like any kind of music.

I do dislike some tunes immensely, but I find that won't turn me off the whole genre.

Jazz itself is a whole universe of music, as varied and wonderful as all the others combined.

If you really hate world music then you are going to loathe Afrobeat Sunday Afternoon with Fela Kuti and the Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra, playing non stop from 16:00 to 18:00 Today, Sunday the 28th August! Click the link in the sig! (limited listener spots)

If you don't like jazz, you've got a tin ear, and are tone deaf. Jazz was born of the blues, the purest form of American music.
Country is crap, so is rap. ALW may be gay, but who am I to say. Soul includes Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder, even Carole King so can't be all bad.
Press the pass button on Britney Spears, Eminem, N'Sync, or any of the stuff that the teenage moronry die for.

Not strictly true. When I was at school there were a few middle class badboy wannabe's into hardcore, and plenty of kids who loved it and were neither chavs nor lived on council estates.

For the record, I think hardcore is generally rubbish, though the scene did throw up a few decent producers.

Eeek! Rap and jungle hasn't gone down too well and they are my favourites (cant bring mysen to call it drum n bass - it was jungle when I was growing up and jungle it shall stay :D )

My personal loathings are most rock music, (though I did buy a Black Sabbath album the other say cos my dad recommended it and it was ok), country and western and 99% of the commerical souless c**p you hear on the radio or on MTV.

But hey, at least no-ones been nasty about reggae or funk (yet..)

Oh my god, so so sorry but saying you hate world music is such a moronic thing to say (try not to take that personally :help: ) but basically 'world' is any form of classical/traditional/modern music from anywhere in the world! Like, anywhere! Usually used to refer to non-western cultures, but to be honest, most folk/traditional people find the term to be redundant. It's completely abstract! So saying you hate it seems somewhat absurd, frankly.

Now, I can't say I like cheesy country and western at all, but Country (in the more traditional sense) has thrown up some pretty amazing songs. Dolly Parton is one of the most amazing songwriters ever! I had completely passed her talents by but just take a look at the stunning lyrics to 'Silver Dagger' - I never thought I'd be saying I liked country but this song is beautiful.

I find it really difficult to say what i don't like as i love many genres but it's particular songs that make me want to slit parts that i shouldn't.

Such as:
Lady in red Chris duh blergh
The power of love Jennifer Rush
Simply the best Tina Turner
Anything by Celine Drone.

I really hated Higher state of consciousness Josh Wink as well - was everything i detested in dance music, just repeated nonsense. Don't like that sort of stuff at all - I'm completely Alan Partridge about it - it's just noise. Yeah but I'm quite simple in my tastes. :)

I'd agree with you, I love repeated riffs or loops... fools gold being one of my favourite ever records to dance to.

My taste in music is easily explained.

I like something with guitars and or pianos.
I like something where i can sing along to it.:hihi:(possibly a reason for you NOT to like it!) - not all the music i like has to have lyrics but i do prefer them. Or has screaming men who are probably quite cute. :hihi:
I like something where it builds to something. e.g. Just Radiohead. 505 Arctic monkeys, the most dance i probably get is massive attack and unfinished sympathy but i love that bit in the middle with the strings.

I just remember being out with my a couple of mates in Europa, Winky came on, they were both loving it and I was just like an old fart thinking i don't like this, I wanna go home.

Dare i tell him I also really hate that Lil Louis track? :hihi:

I mostly buy reggae, soul, hip hop, jazz, funk, hip hop, jazz, Brazilian and African music. Occasionally I'll be in the mood for a little alternative rock or punk or early Chicago house or disco . The only country I own is by Johnny Cash. I have no classical at all or what's usually classed as folk.

Predictable to see the usual saddo comments about rap not being music. What is it? Detergent? :loopy:
Ho Ho. It's got a silent 'C'. Ho Ho. Haven't heard that before ... think of it all by yourself etc. etc. Unfortunately these opinions probably come from people who've never heard any real hip hop - just 50 Cent and his top 40 buddies.

The worst music I've heard is on TV adverts for dance compilations announced (shouted) by some enthusiastic sounding female. She described the stuff as hardcore. It was anything but. Sounded like the sort of stuff that would be leaking out of a small hatchback wearing a large bodykit and being piloted by a small chap in baseball cap. Very poor.

I have much hate reserved for:

Celine Dion
Cher
Shania Twain
The Corrs
Duran Duran
Spandau Ballet
Chris de Burgh
Daniel O'Donnell
50 Cent
Elton John
Girls Aloud
all that Louis Walsh / Simon Cowell fodder

I know exactly what you mean!

For a while I was getting really confused - I kept hearing music being described as R&B that to me was just girlie groups singing eg Destiny's Child and the like. Thought I must be mishearing the initials!

R&B to me is essentially music made by bands such as the Stones that's based on the original American Blues.

I love 'real' R&B like that, music that's growling and smoky and dirty - not that awful dancey stuff around today.

For original R&B think Fats Domino, Ruth Brown, Lavern Baker, Dave Bartholomew ...

Modern R&B used to be called New Jack Swing or Swingbeat. Some is good but a great deal leaves me cold.
