we've got to shihtzu's (thats how you spell it) bitch since it was a pup and dog since about 3. They get tear stains its normal but not sure about red/pink. Shihtzu's also suffer from hay fever (dont know how you spell it) its common with these dogs think you can get drops or tablets tho.

Hi there,

I used to use a product called ‘Kleen Face’ on my Bichon Frise – it’s a clear tonic solution and you just pour a little onto a cotton pad and wipe around the eyes. The product is made from natural ingredients and can even be used as eye drops to cleanse / flush the tear ducts and prevent staining. It can be used as many times a day as necessary – we used it twice a day and this was plenty.

My Bichon Frise developed very, very red / rusty brown staining as a puppy and this took is away completely – I can’t recommend it highly enough. We also know other Bichon owners, and one lady in particular tried product after product to no avail. After a few days using Kleen Face the staining had really started to lift away :)

I’ve copied you a link below:

http://www.dogsstuff.co.uk/en/Kleen-Face

Website Product Description:
“The original Kleen Face will remove staining around the eyes and helps to flush tear ducts through, the main cause of staining. Put a couple of drops in the eye - IT DOES NOT STING - with your normal grooming routine, wiping the excess through the tear marks. If the staining is bad you can use Kleen Face 2/3 times a day. You will see the staining lift after a few days. This is a pure product that does not contain any bleaching or masking agents. Also effective on pink feet and urine stains. Guaranteed to start to lift stains within two weeks.”

Some people think that the food that they eat can affect the amount of staining. I'm a bit cynical about that though :hihi:

I use Eye Envy on my Bichon Frise. You can get a starter pack for £20 from the US. It includes Eye Envy Solution, Eye Envy Powder and Eye Envy Pads. It's really good :)

They sell eye wipes in most pet shops/vets but I have used sensitive skin baby wipes on my persian cat and they have done her no harm
