View Full Version : Over The Rainbow.
Kingmaker2 03-04-2010, 19:59 I'm suprised that no one has started a thread about this show.
I watched last week and this weeks show and found it pretty entertaining.
I think Lauren was the outstanding singing performance this week.
Anyone else watching the show or is it just me?
Usual Saturday night telly dross!
Kingmaker2 04-04-2010, 14:22 Usual Saturday night telly dross!
Perhaps, but then again I found it a damn sight more watchable than other shows like "X Factor" or "Dancing on Ice".
It kept me entertained anyhow, perhaps it's something to do with watching pretty young girls sing and dance;)
muddycoffee 04-04-2010, 14:27 Why on earth would anyone in their right mind post a thread on a local forum about a crappy cheap TV show.
Kingmaker2 04-04-2010, 14:37 Why on earth would anyone in their right mind post a thread on a local forum about a crappy cheap TV show.
Firstly, I for one didn't find it "crappy".
Secondly take a good look at the threads in this forum, the vast majority I suspect would fall into your idea of what is "crappy"
Classic Rock 04-04-2010, 14:54 It has to be the campest thing on TV at the moment. What makes me laugh is when the Dorothys are singing and the camera pans round to Lord Webber who either looks bemused or half asleep.
Anyway, how come Lloyd Webber gets to advertise his West End show on the BBC? Nobody else gets this free advertising!

But that's part of the appeal, Lloyd Webber is BBC's equivalent to ITV's Simon Cowell.
And we can be thankful that Lloyd Webber is keeping Cowell from invading the BBC, for now at least.:gag:
I do like Sheila Hancock as judge as she really isn't afraid to speak her mind.

I can see where your coming from :hihi::hihi:
I think its a great programme, the girls this time are really talented. I think Jessica is one to watch.
msweatherwax 11-04-2010, 19:53 Can't believe there is no thread for this yet, who should be Dorothy? Watching the second sing off but think Bronte should go
i dont remember her name but i like the girl with red hair that has a gap in her teath
msweatherwax 11-04-2010, 20:00 thats emilie but she is blonde now
danielle should be dorothythought lauren should have gone .
pattricia 11-04-2010, 20:07 Can't elieve there is no thread for this yet, who should be Dorothy? Watching the second sing off but think Bronte should go
Is Bronte the ugly blonde with the big nose ?:)
msweatherwax 11-04-2010, 20:07 well was right about Bronte, and Amy last week. Don't have a certain favourite as yet. Couldn't believe seeing a Great Dane trying to be Toto!!
msweatherwax 11-04-2010, 20:08 Shame on you laura, I sky +'d it!!
msweatherwax 11-04-2010, 20:09 Is Bronte the ugly blonde with the big nose ?:)
she looks a bit piggish if that helps
pattricia 11-04-2010, 20:09 danielle should be dorothythought lauren should have gone .
Its a cruel show. The loser has to sit on a sparkly moon and sing Somewhere Over The Rainbow, while the other girls pretend to cry. Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders could make a funny sketch out of this, especially if someone pulls the loser off with a stick around her neck.
pattricia 11-04-2010, 20:10 she looks a bit piggish if that helps
Nice voice shame about the nose.

They say this competition among the dogs isnt for the final dog for the proper show. That will be a professional stage dog. Just a filler inner I suspect.

Do you think they should train it to bark to " Who Let The Dogs Out ?"
msweatherwax 11-04-2010, 20:33 pattricia you are nearly as bad as me
pattricia 11-04-2010, 20:35 pattricia you are nearly as bad as me
Although I love the show, I think its very cruel and hard.:) The worst singers dont always go out, the girl tonight was a good singer but rather ugly
Shame on you laura, I sky +'d it!!
I don't have sky so I couldn't its not as have to watchable as x factor thats the problem lol
perplexed 12-04-2010, 11:56 Can't believe there is no thread for this yet, who should be Dorothy? Watching the second sing off but think Bronte should go
Jabberwocky...
slimsid2000 12-04-2010, 13:48 Can't believe there is no thread for this yet, who should be Dorothy? Watching the second sing off but think Bronte should go
Graham Norton
Or is he just a friend of Dorothy?
(is this rather predictable and slightly homophobioc)?
pattricia 12-04-2010, 21:44 I think Andrew Lloyd Webber should be Dorothy. After all he has the eye bags doesnt he ?
Akposodje 13-04-2010, 11:46 I think I must be one of the Gays cause I enjoy this show. Watched the Joseph and Nancy ones too which were good.
Lord Webber is totally bizarre and great TV.
My favourites are Danielle and Jenny for what its worth. Anyway just off to polish my ruby slippers.
Its another BBC programme that lines the pockets of lloyd-webber- im not interested at all.
GetItDone 13-04-2010, 19:36 Andrew Loyd Webber is "a friend of Dorothy".
sheffsand 13-04-2010, 19:54 graham norton wud be ideal as dorothy!
pattricia 13-04-2010, 21:34 Cant jabbers be Dorothy. Ive seen a pic of him in a dress.:)

Pat I gotta correct you here, the song "Over the Rainbow" is often wrongly named "Somewhere Over The Rainbow".
Notice the title of the show is also "Over The Rainbow" rather than "Somewhere over the rainbow".

Now this is an interesting fact that I didnt know.
Classic Rock 21-04-2010, 13:42 Technically, as Andrew Lloyd Webber picks the person to hand in their shoes at the end of the show, he could quite easily by now have picked his favourite and if and whenever they end up in the bottom two, could save them so they never leave and end up winning it. Hmmmm.
My favourite is Jess, she's very vivacious and has loads of expression in every song she does.
Can't wait to see the back of Emily and her gap.

His favourite actually went out last Sunday. (Cant remember her name) He said from the start she "looked like Dorothy" but he had the final vote, and voted for the better singer.
Yes, Emily and her gap. Why doesnt she have it filled ?
Classic Rock 21-04-2010, 15:29 It was Bronte (not sure if that's how you spell her name). Didn't he get her a job somewhere else straight after the show?

Thought Bronte went the week before.
pattricia 24-04-2010, 16:44 Just over an hour to go to see who will NOT be Dorothy this week. Will the gal with the gap in her teeth survive another week. ? Somehow Im getting attached to her, but will the voting public feel the same ?

pattricia 25-04-2010, 10:53 Who will go tonight ? Who will NOT be Dorothy ? Who will have to sit on the sparkly moon singing "Over The Rainbow"while the other girls pretend to cry ? Then having to hand her sparkly red shoes back to Andrew Lloyd Webber ?

Pat, doesn't seem anyone wants to talk to you!:(
So I will, I must admit, I am only dipping in and out of the show, I kinda preferred the early auditions than the latest shows, that said though I did catch the vote result tonight.
It became a bit obvious who was going to go tonight even before the sing off with 3 of the judges picking out Emilie as the worst performer.
She took it well though, although to be singled out as the worst by all 3 judges was a little cruel.

Yes, its a cruel show isnt it ?But stephanie to win.
Classic Rock 26-04-2010, 13:05 I'm starting to give all the contestants my own nicknames!
Gappy has gone. I think 'Lulu' will be next. She seems very weak compared to the others.
What does ALW do with the girl's shoes when they give them to him at the end of the show? Sniff, sniff?

I dunno, I don't watch crap
pattricia 27-04-2010, 14:34 I dunno, I don't watch crap
Thats why nobody is interested in "Who will be Dorothy". (exept me)
Akposodje 30-04-2010, 22:21 ALW has just got to sniff the shoes one week when passed to him !!
Think they should put a Webber cam in the corner of the screen - he is a funny little man.
Danielle to win for me.

Yes, ALW is peculiar isnt he ? I forgotten who Danielle is now.
I like Danielle best, didn't notice her at first but really liker her now.
I also like Steph, thinks she's great. Best actress.
Kingmaker2 01-05-2010, 18:27 "I think it would be wonderful to have a mixed race girl as Dorothy!-Sheila Hancock "
Careful Sheila, you wouldn't want to cause" mixed race girl gate".;)
pattricia 02-05-2010, 21:31 Well Stephanie went out tonight and I had her down to win.
i liked stepanie too was crying with her there all so good
pattricia 02-05-2010, 21:37 i liked stepanie too was crying with her there all so good
Its quite a cruel show.the way she has to sit on the sparkly moon and go up to the ceiling.

Is that the "mixed raced girl":?:...........not my words.....Sheila's.

No the mixed race girl  was in the sing off with Stephanie. She was called Steph to confuse things even more. I think theres only me & you kingy who watches it from SF.

You could be right, all though their might be some closet viewers too scared to admit it as it's not as "cool" as
"X" Factor (I hate the "X" factor by the way)
I only caught a glimpse tonight.
Yesterday I thought the red head (Can't remember the name) was good.
There is a girl, who's face (quite roundish) is very similar to one of the girls in Girls Aloud, I think she is good too.

I watch it, and along with Akposodje and mel77, I like Danielle best so far.
"I think it would be wonderful to have a mixed race girl as Dorothy!-Sheila Hancock " She said to Jenny at the same time that it would also be wonderful to have a blonde as Dorothy. I understood from her comments that she meant the new Dorothy doesn't have to be the one that looks most like Judy Garland.
pattricia 02-05-2010, 22:04 I watch it, and along with Akposodje and mel77, I like Danielle best so far.

Im betting on Danielle being the winner. Im getting to like her more each week.
Kingmaker2 02-05-2010, 22:15 What colour is her hair?
I've just looked on the BBC webite she's Jenny.
pattricia 02-05-2010, 22:18 I've just looked on the BBC webite she's Jenny.
Jenny ? Is she blonde or a redhead?

I'm sure Sheila didn't mean anything by the comment, but you could see some nervousness amongst the others in the studio when she mentioned "mixed race", even I felt slightly awkward when she mentioned it.
It potentially could have turned out to be "car crash tv"........only that's already happened I see to Brown & Mandleson in mid flow!:hihi:
Kingmaker2 02-05-2010, 22:21 Jenny ? Is she blonde or a redhead?
I would describe her as the mousey blonde.
pattricia 02-05-2010, 22:27 I would describe her as the mousey blonde.
Yes, I know the one.
officegirl 02-05-2010, 22:39 I love this show - awful mash up of songs then the end bit when the shoes are removed annd they sing broken hearted on a moon.
Next week 2 will float away - I can't wait.
Wish that Jess would stop gurning, but I think Lauren may win or at least be in the final.

Yes, 2 will float away next week. Wonder if they will both fit on the sparkly moon.? :)
officegirl 02-05-2010, 22:45 It's gonna be one hell of an emotional roller coaster next week!
pattricia 02-05-2010, 22:52 It's gonna be one hell of an emotional roller coaster next week!

i love over the rainbow.all the girls are good ,although not keen on the face pulling of jess .sad to see stephanie go tonight .danielle to win for me although i think that the judges are hoping its steph or lauren
I'm with you guys and love the show! I also liked the one for Joseph and Nancy!
I think Sheila was very brave and right to say what she said although i did look akwardly at my partner when she said it! but it's true, it would be great to have someone different as Dorothy.
I wasn't expecting Stephanie to go out but i'm glad he picked her over Steph.
For me the weakest is Sophie (redhead) and as much as i like Jenny's voice (blonde) i think she would struggle as she isn't the best mover.
Danielle is the best for me and i've liked her from day one. I think she's the best actress and fits the Dorothy stereotype as much as i hate to admit it.
Jess is great but not Dorothy for me, she reminds me too much of Liza Minelli and would be better suited to a different role. Dare i say a little bit too manly!?
It would be brilliant if Steph could win but i don't think she will, i don't think the audience are behind her, not because she's not good but because they can't see her as Dorothy. I actually think she's TOO good and would be better in a different role. I can see her as Jasmine in Aladdin (now that would make a great musical:))
Ok, enough over the Rainbow talk...
Next week i'd like to see Sophie or Jess leave.
cant believe jess is still there .and why does lauren always get the best songs each week.
cant understand all the hype with steph either .
danielle is the best for dorothy
kenny gray 08-05-2010, 20:19 why do we as the license paying public act as the free platform for talent spotting for a multi-millionaire?
Andrew Lloyd Webber was certainly quick to decide yesterday!!! None of the usual waffle about what a hard decision it was and how both of them were so so good!!! He chose Lauren straight away!!!!
I thought he was a bit patronising the other week when he told the gap toothed one that she was "the prettiest thing".... I'd have been quite annoyed if he spoke to me like that!!!!!
Steph , I think, has a too sophisticated air about her to play Dorothy, I'm not sure she could act as a fairly naive young girl!!!
Sophie, I just can't "see" as Dorothy!!!! I could see Lee Mead as "Joseph" and Connie Fisher as "maria" but not Sophie as Dorothy!!!
Jess is a terrific actress and singer, but again, I can't see her as Dorothy... I could be wrong though... She had a real look of Liza Minnelli when she did Cabaret last week, and she simply was Mary Poppins yesterday (apart from the dress!!! Why did she have to wear that?????!!!) so maybe she could use her magic and become Dorothy???
Lauren seems to be the favourite with the panel, she has an amazing voice, she probably gets the good songs because she's able to sing whatever is thrown at her!!! Maybe some of the other girls simply don't have that ability yet???
Danielle, I can see as Dorothy but I'm not sure she'll be able to take the strain of all the performances, isn't she the youngest of all the girls??
Where the voting's concerned, how many people on here actually ring up and vote??? I don't!!! I just like to watch the show!! I think a lot of the voting is to do with the song rather than the performer.... Lauren did a song I hadn't heard of (and possibly a lot of others didn't know it!!!) and she got least votes!!! And of course, the girls friends and family will be voting for their own!!!!
Waiting for the next breathtaking instalment!!!! :hihi: :hihi:
PS I thought Jenny reminded me of a young Barbara Windsor!!!!!
Truffles 09-05-2010, 16:43 I watch the programme every week and find it very entertaining to watch the girls that are competing to be Dorothy are extremely talented. I am hoping steph will win.
I also watch it every week and I also think that Danielle would make a good Dorothy but Jess has grown on me she is brilliant to watch and sings really well but she is not so good at speaking. I think whoever gets the part will have to be good with dogs and it is that that lead to Jenny's downfall. Lauren however as been my favourite from the begining and I was upset to see her in the sing off.
Pleased with this weekend's results :) Think they are the right two to go.
Jenny was good but not right for Dorothy, would be good in something else though. I like Jess but for another role, something, like Andrew said, more comical. Neither were my favourite Dorothy's.
I'd like Steph or Danielle to win
x

Seeing its the public who vote, anyone could now be Dorothy.
msweatherwax 09-05-2010, 21:00 my last 2 were jess and sophie, think danielle should have gone
officegirl 16-05-2010, 19:45 Oh no Steph is in the sing off

Kingmaker2 23-05-2010, 14:40 I don't like any of the 3 that are left - but time for the eviction song ha ha
I actually liked the winner Danielle, she was clearly the best out of the 3 last night.
For me she was a very worthy winner.
Kingmaker2 24-05-2010, 12:57 so glad danielle won.
Yeah I liked Danielle's chirpy manner, Sophie always looked too sad and didn't think her routine with the tin man scarecrow and lion was all that good as she seemed to sing at the characters rather than relating to them like Danielle did.
As for Lauren, I think her song choice was bad, "I Could Have Danced All Night" and that last high note was pretty awful in my view, and I suspect that many viewers may have been turned of by it.
Pat.....what say you:?:
