This is really retarded but I have to ask. I am moving to Sheffield soon from out of the country. About how much per week do you spend on food in the UK? I am talking average person with a decent diet. Not too much, not too little, just average, how much. It would help me to budget, thanks!

I spend about £25 a week for just me. If there are special offers and bits on I might spend a bit more, but then I'll probably spend next the following week.
Good luck with the move :)

All depends on where you shop and what you eat. It seems that most people in the UK eat pre-prepaired meals most of the time. If you cook from ingredients and eat lots of rice, pasta and vegetables you could eat very cheaply. If you live near town the casltle market is a great place for cheap food, most people just go to the local supermarket though which is much more expensive.

My partner and I spend about £90-£100 on food a week. We get our food from M&S at Meadowhall [collect by bar - it's a godsend].

We don't really keep a track of it as we buy a lot locally when we need it. I would guess at £80 to £100 including wine. I have noticed an increase in expenditure since I swapped Tesco for Waitrose! But the absence of ankle biters and rude people shoving you with their trolleys makes it worth the extra.

We budget about £20 - 25 /week each. If you stuck to value items i'm sure you could do it a lot cheaper, as a student I managed on about £10 - 15 /week.

We spend about £100 a week, but that includes beer and wine and non-essential food like chocolate/ice cream/biscuits etc.
We have managed on less than £40 a week when we've been skint, but there is a limit to how many times in a week you can eat corned beef hash (about 3 times).

Thanks! The averages help. I won't be buying alchohol haha because I can't drink it that much due to a health condition so that will help it cost less too! Thanks!

BF and I budget £40 a month each... So basically we spend £20 a week for the pair of us... Having a job in a cafe helps cos I get to take home the cakes/sarni's... which my BF eats cos he loves em and which I can't stand cos I'm sick of seeing them lol!
I get a meal break at work whereby I get to have whatever I want... It's a perfect job for a student lol!

In the supermarket, I tend to buy middle of the range on most items... However things such as beans and rice pud, I get Value... Because you can guarantee that when I return from work, all the "easy to cook" food has been raided, so I can't justify spending 50p for a can when 20p will do... lol
